We are a family oriented, non profit organization, which focuses on the preservation of information, documents, and artifacts relating to the invention, development, and use of farm tractors and related implements and equipment. We shall also endeavor to teach present and future generations about the uses of these antique tractors, implements and equipment and to show them at work. Membership Originally founded in 1994 by a handful of tractor lovers, the club has grown to over 500 members and sponsors. Membership is not limited to those who own restored tractors. Unrestored tractors, straight off the farm are popular too. In fact it is not necessary to own a tractor at all to participate in club activities. Membership gives the family something to enjoy together and because children are always welcome at all club functions and meetings, they learn to appreciate their agricultural heritage along with their parents. The Maine Antique Tractor Club does not want the cost of membership to prevent families from joining, and strives to keep membership dues affordable for everyone ($20.00 per year per family, $30.00 per year per sponsor and family).

"Empathy can come later" 12:00AM BST 01 Jun 2002 Comments For many children, there are only three dates in English history: 1066, 1666 and . . . 1966. Dates, it seems, have been thrown out with other historical bath water. Learning by rote, whether it's kings and queens, battles or plagues, is as outmoded as corporal punishment - and seen by some as even more damaging to a child's delicate psyche. We have, of course, moved out of the period in history when the actions of the monarch had a major impact on ordinary people and when battles determined our future course. But is that sufficient justification for the teachers of today to say, almost with pride, that they simply don't teach dates? Nor is that all. The idea of chronology seems to have disappeared, too. History in schools used to be a canter through everything from the Stone Age to the end of the Second World War. Nowadays, the whole approach is episodic and illogical, casually missing out a few centuries here and any number of Nelsons and Wellingtons there.
