US stock exchanges push for sub-penny pricing
Jan 26, 2010 10:53 EST share pricing stock exchanges USA By Jonathan Spicer NYSE Euronext, Nasdaq OMX, privately held Any narrowing of the ticks would likely involve only a subset of securities, possibly those stocks worth less than $5 or $10, some exchanges said. The current penny increment could be narrowed to a half-penny or as much as a tenth of a penny. Nasdaq, BATS and Direct Edge executives told Reuters they would also consider increasing the tick sizes for thinly traded stocks if that would help them to trade more freely. The venues added there is no formal coordination to push for changes as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission conducts a broad review of the mostly electronic U.S. markets. Brian Hyndman, senior vice president of transaction services at Nasdaq OMX, said the company is speaking to traders to help decide what tick sizes on which stocks would be appropriate if changes were adopted, adding it is not yet pushing for lower increments. Faster and more sophisticated trading of stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) over the last decade has forced exchanges to battle hard for the growing flow of orders.

12. Tim, The Beta Broker
Java applet utility which allows buying and selling of HSX stock automatically and slowly.

TIM, THE BETA BROKER
If your web browser is capable of viewing applets, Tim should be loading as you read this. Tim is more or less self-explanatory. First enter your member ID and password in the appropriate boxes, then press "Okay." The section at the top of this page should have three boxes, two buttons, and a checkbox. Enter the name of the stock or bond in the first box. Enter the number to buy or sell in the second box. For a normal transaction, just press buy or sell. Tim can handle purchases larger than the normal limit. If the "slow" box is checked, Tim will only sell 5000 of a given stock every 5 minutes, or 100 of a bond. This reduces the effect you have on the price. The third text box lets you limit the price range. Enter the highest price you'll buy at or the lowest price you'll sell at, then leave Tim in the background. If the price falls into that range, Tim will carry out the transaction. Tim makes use of the networking capabilites of Java. May browsers will not allow this. You can try adjusting your preferencs to permit networking by applets. I hope to enable all browsers to use Tim by the final version. You are the visitor to this page Send bugs/comments/suggestions to
