Uzbekistan : Culture
During the 1980s religious practice surged, transforming many aspects of Uzbek life, particularly in the towns of the Fergana Valley and other concentrations of Muslim believers. This resurgence affected the republic's cultural life through the increased activities of religious schools, neighbourhood mosques, religious orders, and religious publishing ventures and through the Islamic Renaissance Party. Over the centuries, the territory of what is now Uzbekistan has produced great scholars, poets, and writers whose heritage has envaluableed the general culture of humanity. The scholar and encyclopaedist al-Biruni, who lived in the 11th century, produced a series of geographic works about India and a wide range of writings in the natural sciences and humanities. In the 15th century the astronomer and mathematician Ulugh Beg founded a famous observatory in Samarkand. The late 15th-century scholar, poet, and writer 'Ali Shir Nava'i greatly advanced Turkic-language literature and was also a talented artist and composer. Andijon Bukhoro Farghona Jizzakh ... Bukhara Khiva ... Moynak The embroidery of nomadic and semi-nomadic people of the Republic found its most colorful expression in clothes and in small objects. Embroidery was used to decorate men's festive gowns, belt-shawls, women's wedding cloaks, sheaths for knives, tea cosies, mirrors and purses. At the end of the nineteenth to the beginning of the twentieth centuries the investigators of this craft point to the development of artistic tendencies in distinctive schools differing in their use of ornamental motifs, composition and pattern and color combinations, and by the nineteenth century there were important centers of artistic embroidery in Nurata, Bukhara, Samarkand, Shakhrisabz, Tashkent and Fergana, each of them possessing its local artistic peculiarities. Thus an original style of embroidery arose at the end of the nineteenth century in Nurata. It used colored flowers spread across a white background of fabric. From the point of view of wealth and variety of colored motifs the patterns take a leading place in artistic embroidery of Uzbekistan. Frequently plant designs are accompanied by birds, sometimes in hardly perceptible places, as well as highly stylized representations of animals and people. The most prevalent composition has an eight-pointed star in the middle and four large aromas in the corners. This composition is named chor shokhuyak mokh, meaning «four twigs and the moon» in Tadjik. The remaining motifs are found in the space between the main designs. Another type of ornamental composition is a rhomboid latticework of delicate leaves (toba-doni, meaning latticed). Its cells are filled with branches of flowers, rosettes, of birds and animals.

CULTURE Though the nation of Uzbekistan is relatively new, gaining independence only after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, their culture is one of the most ancient and rifined in Central Asia. One particulary distinctive and well-developed aspect of Uzbek culture is their cuisine. Unlike their nomadik neighbours, the Uzbeks have had a settled civilization for centuries. Between the deserts and mountains, in the oasis and fertile valleys, they cultivated grain and domesticated livestock. The resulting abundunce of produce allowed them to express their strong tradition of hospitality, which in turn enriched their cuisine. The seasons, specifically winter and summer, greatly influence the composition of the basic menu. In the summer, fruits, vegetables, and nuts are ubiquitous. Fruits grow in abundance in Uzbekistan - grapes, melons, apricots, pears, apples, cherries, pomegranates, lemons, figs, dates. Vegetables are no less plentiful, including some lesser known species such as green redishes, yellow carrots, dozen of pumpkin and squash varieties, in addition to the usual eggplants, peppers, turnips, cucumbers and luscious tomatoes.

With the ancient cities of Bukhoro, Samarqand, and Khiva within its borders, Uzbekistan contains Central Asia’s oldest and most important cultural centers. Islam has been the dominant cultural tradition since the 8th century. During the Soviet period cultural development was restricted under the dogma of socialist realism, which forbade topics that were deemed nationalist—in many cases actually religious—and mandated that literature and art extol Communist themes. However, folk art continued to be produced during certain periods of Soviet history and has enjoyed a great renaissance since the late 1980s. deeper links

Culture of Uzbekistan is one of the brightest and original cultures of East. It is inimitable national music, dances and painting, unique national kitchen and clothes. The Uzbek national music is characterized as variety of subjects and genres. The songs and tool plays according to their functions and forms of usage can be divided into two groups: performed in the certain time and under the certain circumstances and performed at any time. The songs connected with customs and traditions, labor processes, various ceremonies, dramatized entertainment representations and games belong to the first group.
The Uzbek people is well-known for its songs. Koshuk - household song with a small diapason melody, covering one or two rows of the poetic text. The dancing character of a melody of this genre provides their performance in support of comic dances. "Lapar" is a dialogue-song. In some areas the term - lapar is applied to wedding songs "Ulan" (which is performed as a dialogue of man and women). Genre "yalla" includes two kinds of songs: a melody of a narrow range, and solo simultaneously with dance. National and professional poems of the poets of East are used as the texts for the songs. The special place in the Uzbek musical heritage occupy "dastans" (epic legends with lyric-heroic content). Also "Makoms"- are the basic classical fund of professional music of oral tradition.

Uzbekistan Culture, Map, Flag, Tourist Places
Uzbekistan, in the ancient cradle between the Amu-Darya and Syr-Darya rivers, is the most historically fascinating of the Central Asian republics. The history of Uzbekistan, its culture and statehood, foreign economic and social ties of the territory is more than 2.5 millennia. Uzbekistan's freedom loving population fought for its independence against all foreign invaders during centuries. Situated on the crossroads of the Great Silk Road, the region played an important role in the dialogue of different civilizations. its flourishing in the ancient times, then during the reign of the Samanids and Timurids is connected with the involvement of the region in the international economic interrelations.Within it are some of the oldest towns in the world, some of the Silk Road's main centres and most of the region's architectural splendours. The most powerful Islamic party in Uzbekistan is the Islamic Renaissance Party (IRP), whose allies in other former Soviet Central Asian republics have made substantial headway. There has been some armed opposition to the government from militants belonging to the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU). The Karimov government has taken an uncompromising line against any and all opposition. It has a dreadful human rights record, with political prisoners running into tens of thousands and the systematic use of torture of detainees.
