Vietnam had passed many wars to be independent. Millions people had been died for Vietnam today. Below are some important icons of Vietnam history. Due to the increasing need to control floods, fight against invaders, and exchange culture and economy, those tribes who live near each other tended to gather together and integrate into a larger mixed group. Among these Lac Viet tribes was the Van Lang, which was the most powerful one. The leader of this tribe joined all the Lac Viet tribes together to found Van Lang Nation, addressing himself as Hung King. The next generations followed in their father’s footsteps and kept this appellation. Based on historical documents, researchers correlatively delineated the location of Van Lang Nation to the present day regions of North and north of Central Vietnam, as well as the south of present-day Kwangsi (China). The Van Lang Nation approximately lasted from the beginning of the first millennium B.C. to the 3rd century B.C. In 221 BC, Tan Thuy Hoang, King of Tan (China), invaded the land of the Viet tribes. Thuc Phan, the leader of the alliance of Au-Viet tribes was respected as the chief of the resistance war against the Tan enemy that later, in 208 BC, was forced to withdraw. With his imposing power, Thuc Phan nominated himself as King An Duong Vuong and founded Au Lac Nation with groups of Lac Viet and Au Viet tribes. In 207 BC, Trieu Da, King of Nam Viet (China), invaded Au Lac country. The resistance of An Duong Vuong failed soon after this invasion. As a result, the northern feudalist took turns dominating the country over the next seven centuries, establishing their harsh regime in the country and dividing the country into administrative regions and districts with unfamiliar names. However, the country’s name of Au Lac could not be erased from the people’s minds in their everyday life.

History of Vietnam VN Embassy Learn about Vietnam : History Early history The archaeological excavations carried out recently have proved the presence of human beings in the territory of Vietnam since the Paleolithic Age or the Old Stone Age (300,000 - 500,000 years). In the Neolithic Age (New Stone Age), Hoa Binh - Bac Son cultures (about 10,000 BC) had witnessed the development of agriculture and animal husbandry, including even the technique of paddy rice cultivation. The Vietnamese as an ethnic group had been formed and developed early in the Red river and Ma river delta situated in northern part of the present-day Vietnam. Generations to generations, people moved from highland and mountainous areas to the plains, developed new lands for cultivation. They constructed a system of irrigation dams and dykes to tame the mighty Red River, the river that brought about several devastating floods every year. It is the process of continuous labor to control water - to fight against flood, storm and drought, to build up irrigation dams and canals for agricultural cultivation that formed the paddy rice civilization and the commune culture. In the Bronze Age, a unique and distinct civilization had been formed that reached a high level in technical skill as well as art - the brilliant Dong Son culture. The recent ethnological, historical and archaeological studies and researches have asserted the existence of the Hung Kings' period in Van Lang Kingdom (later Au Lac Kingdom) about 1000 years BC. In 200 BC, Au Lac Kingdom was invaded and annexed into the giant empire of the Han feudalism in the north. Nevertheless, the ten-century domination of Chinese feudalism could not assimilate Vietnamese culture and break the Viet people's brave resistance.

    Brief history of Vietnam
    BRIEF HISTORY OF VIETNAM:
The Vietnamese first appeared in history as one of many scattered peoples living in what is now South China and Northern Vietnam just before the beginning of the Christian era. According to local tradition, the small Vietnamese kingdom of Au Lac, located in the heart of the Red River valley, was founded by a line of legendary kings who had ruled over the ancient kingdom of Van Lang for thousands of years. Historical evidence to substantiate this tradition is scanty, but archaeological findings indicate that the early peoples of the Red River delta area may have been among the first East Asians to practice agriculture, and by the 1st century BC they had achieved a relatively advanced level of Bronze Age civilization.
    CHINESE INFLUENCE:
    INDEPENDENCE:
THE ECONOMY UNDER THE LY DYNASTY:
Like most of its neighbors, Vietnam was primarily an agricultural state, its survival based above all on the cultivation of wet rice. As in medieval Europe, much of the land was divided among powerful noble families, who often owned thousands of serfs or domestic slaves. A class of landholding farmers also existed, however, and powerful monarchs frequently attempted to protect this class by limiting the power of feudal lords and dividing up their large estates. The Vietnamese economy was not based solely on agriculture. Commerce and manufacturing thrived, and local crafts appeared in regional markets throughout the area. Vietnam never developed into a predominantly commercial nation, however, or became a major participant in regional trade patterns.

    Vietnam History
From the 1st to the 6th centuries, the south of what is now Vietnam was part of the Indianised kingdom of Funan. The Hindu kingdom of Champa appeared around present-day Danang in the late 2nd century and had spread south to what is now Nha Trang by the 8th century. The Chinese conquered the Red River Delta in the 2nd century and their 1000-year rule, marked by tenacious Vietnamese resistance and repeated rebellions, ended in 938 AD when Ngo Quyen vanquished the Chinese armies at the Bach Dang River.
During the next few centuries, Vietnam repulsed repeated invasions by China, and expanded its borders southwards from the Red River Delta, populating much of the Mekong Delta. In 1858, French and Spanish-led forces stormed Danang after several missionaries had been killed. A year later, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) was seized. By 1867, France had conquered all of southern Vietnam, which became the French colony of Cochin-China.
Communist guerillas under the leadership of Ho Chi Minh resisted French domination. Ho Chi Minh's declaration of Vietnamese independence after WWII sparked violent confrontations with the French, culminating in the French military defeat at Dien Bien Phu in 1954.

Vietnam History Vietnam is located on the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia along with Cambodia and Laos. The northern neighbor of the country is China. The eastern edge of the country is the South China Sea. Economically, Vietnam is currently the fastest growing country in Southeast Asia. The country is also growing quickly in population. The current Vietnam population is estimated to be more than 85 million people. The area that is now known as Vietnam has been inhabited for thousands of years. The country has been ruled by many different countries, including China, France, and Japan, throughout its long history. In the mid 1900s, the Viet Minh movement fought for independence from the Japanese. The Communist party has controlled the Vietnam government since just after the Vietnam War. However, the Vietnam government is slightly different than traditional Communist structures. In the mid 1980s the government implemented free market reforms that allowed private ownership in some industries, such as agriculture. This is part of what led to the quick growth of the economy of the country. Today, while the Communist party controls the government, business owners are able to make their own decisions about their companies on a day-to-day basis. Also, the government allows individuals to control foreign investment. This has led to an increase in the amount of domestic savings in the country, which has also led to the growth of the country's economy. The country is still considered poor, and the vast majority of the Vietnam population is living below the poverty level, but the country is making strides to improve the economic condition of its populace.

The Hindu kingdom of Champa appeared around present-day Danang in the late 2nd century and had spread south to what is now Nha Trang by the 8th century. The Vietnamese are the descendants of the Mongols. Founded by the emperor Hung Vuong in 2879 BC, the nation was known as Nam Viet until 15th century. The early history of Vietnam mainly deals with reign of the French and Chinese rulers.
During 19th century the French occupied Vietnam and unified the nation in 1887. At that time, Vietnam was divided into three parts, Cochin- China, Tonkin and Annam. Though the country claimed independence after the Second World War, the French rule continued. The Vietnam history also informs us that the country was divided into anti-Communist South and Communist North during that period
In the year 1960, US forces started providing military and financial help to South Vietnam. But in 1973, the US forces cam back due to a ceasefire agreement. Later on, the North Vietnamese conquered the southern part uniting it into one nation under the Communist domain.
The modern history of Vietnam states the several economic reforms undertaken to boost up the economy of Vietnam. Still now, Vietnam experiences protests from various ethnic groups.
