Vietnam-US relations grow fast, says diplomat
(VNA) Vietnam-US ties are developing fast and effectively in all fields of economics, politics, trade, investment, science-technology, culture and education. Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Le Cong Phung made the remark in an interview granted to Washington-based Vietnamese reporters on the occasion of the 15 th anniversary of the normalisation of the two countries’ diplomatic relations (July 12). While assessing the bilateral ties over the past 15 years, Phụng said that these are special relations. “The two countries experienced a period of ups and downs, especially the war heritages, and it is unimaginable that the bilateral ties have developed so ... more >> Latest news: Vietnam supports US’s EAS full membership - (VNA) Vietnam supports the US to become a full member of the East Asia Summit (EAS), Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has said. mess with the identities of their adopted non-white children
This is a guest post by eponymous blogger Asian American Movement. It first appeared here
"78% of Asian TRAs Consider Themselves White"
Last year, the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute issued an interesting report
As this New York Times article notes, 78% of TRAs considered themselves to be White or wished they were White when they were children.
While shocking, this percentage is also somewhat understandable given that TRAs are deracinated from their countries of origin and are often raised in a predominantly White milieu.
To me, the experience of TRAs is in some ways a metaphor for the experience of many Asian Americans in general, regardless of whether or not they were adopted.
In particular, the sense of cultural dislocation and identity issues that are sometimes experienced by TRAs are also felt keenly by Asian Americans.
In his seminal essay " Racist Love ," Frank Chin talks about the lack of a distinctive Asian American identity and culture, and the consequent embrace of White values by many Asian Americans.

Mission Statement
The Vietnamese Student Association is a student organization that exists to promote Vietnamese culture and Asian American cultures throughout the campus and community. We hope to educate and advise our peers about the history of Vietnam, its culture, and its people. By networking with other cultural clubs on campus, we hope to promote the idea of Asian American as being multifaceted, as well as rich with variety and similarities. Through our programs and events we hope to create a venue at the University of Oregon in which Vietnamese and non-Vietnamese students can not only learn about the culture, but be in a comfortable environment where people feel welcomed to share their experiences. Our biggest project every year is Culture Night. Culture Night serves to show the community the many different aspects of Vietnamese culture all in one night. From having traditional dances, to expressing the trials we go through as Vietnamese/Asian Americans today, we hope to create a strong understanding of who we are for our peers.

Converting from mbox to maildir, procmail to deliver+dovecot+sieve
October 14th, 2009 No comments I do separate my mail into folders (just another mbox file) of course, otherwise my main mailbox would be in the gigabyte range.  I use procmail to filter incoming email into these separate boxes, to automate dealing with requests, to bounce spam, etc.  My .procmailrc is around 30K in size with lots of recipes, and also pulling in dozens of include files. I knew that mbox is inefficient and that procmail is killing my system I/O, but sheer inertia kept me where I am. Here is the basic HOW-TO for converting mbox to maildir. Basics: I am using Postfix, dovecot on FC11 1. Stop postfix and dovecot. 2. Install dovecot-sieve (and dovecot-managesieve if you have users beside yourself) 3. Edit /etc/postfix/main.cf and change mailbox_command to /usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver 4. Edit /etc/dovecot.conf
