The S.P.I.R.A.L Foundation is a registered non-profit corporation in the state of California, Federal Tax ID Number 95-4740304 and has received tax exempt status under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
The S.P.I.R.A.L. Foundation's operations in Vietnam and Nepal are inspired by the principle of "Aid from within the Country". Since 1999, The S.P.I.R.A.L. Foundation has financed humanitarian aid projects with the proceeds generated by income producing handicraft workshops. Currently 1000 Vietnamese and Nepalese are employed with fair wages based on an hourly rate and not on piece-work. All net proceeds from the handicraft sales are returned to Vietnam and Nepal to fund primary health care, medical and educational projects, giving to those involved in the production process a sense of pride that comes by helping and sustaining many others, in even greater need than themselves. Members of all The Spiral Foundation Workshops have an active role in the allocation and monitoring of all funds generated by proceeds from the sales of The Spiral Foundation Gift Line.

    How Do Vietnamese-Americans Celebrate Thanksgiving?
    Note: Turkey is Not Important!
    Hugo Vander Yahoo! Contributor Network
Nov 30, 2009 "Contribute content like this. Start Here The younger Vietnamese-Americans are much more technologically advanced than their parents and aunts and uncles. They are also more adapted to the Western cuisines, and able to enjoy Thanksgiving much better. They are also more likely to look for turkey recipes in books and on the internet. Thus, as a personal experience, it is best to have the turkey cooked by the younger ones! The older folks, who cannot part from the Asian taste, are more likely to add something extra to the menu. Turkey to them is already bland enough, let alone simpler foods like sweet corn, and mashed potatoes.
What is on the menu then?
If turkey is on the menu, do not expect the turkey to be wonderful. Just hope for the best. I once had turkey on teriyaki sauce. It was delicious, but it was obviously not American-style. Other items on the menu, however, also have no rules to them. You might even find the delicious Vietnamese herbal chicken salad (Goi Ga), spring rolls or egg rolls, fried rice
Yes, there will be the ever-faithful mashed potatoes, but expect the gravy to have some extra spice to it, including five spice, garlic, and green onion. The sweet corn is usually untouched, straight out from the can and heated.

In May 1989, a group of Vietnam veterans from West Texas gathered at Texas Tech University to discuss what they might do, in a positive way, about their experiences in Vietnam. That group's immediate decision was to form a Vietnam Archive and begin collecting and preserving materials relating to the American Vietnam experience. In November 1989, the Board of Regents of Texas Tech University established the Vietnam Center, with the dual missions of funding and guiding the development of the Vietnam Archive and encouraging continuing study of all aspects of the American Vietnam experience. The group of veterans who first met in May 1989 were invited to form a board to provide guidance and support for the Vietnam Center. Since then, the Vietnam Center Advisory Board has met regularly to provide advice as the Vietnam Center and Archive at Texas Tech has evolved. Many of the veterans who attended the first meeting in May 1989 continue to advise the Vietnam Center today. In this way, the Vietnam Center remains very closely connected to America's Vietnam Veteran community.
