Snakes
Problem
Snakes found in proximity to human residences may cause concern in some individuals.
Description of Damage
Snakes cause no property damage, but seeing a snake or its shed skin may frighten some people.
Description of Animals
Snakes range in size from a few inches to more than 8 feet. Several poisonous snakes live in this region. Copperheads ( Agkistrodon contortrix ) have the widest distribution; rattlesnakes ( Crotalus spp.) are found in most states but are not as common as copperheads. Cottonmouths ( Agkistrodon piscivorus ) may be common in some areas, while coral snakes ( Micrurus fulvius ) have the most restricted distributions. For information on snake identification, consult Martof et al. (1980) or Conant (1975). (See reference list on page 3.) The pit vipers- - which include copperheads, cottonmouths and rattle- snakes- - are characterized by a pit between and slightly below the eye and nostril; long movable fangs; a vertically elliptical pupil; undivided scales on the underside of the tail; and a triangular head.

They eat small animals and hunt by striking and envenomating their prey. Vipers are characterized by a pair of long, hollow, venom-injecting fangs attached to movable bones of the upper jaw (the maxillaries) that are folded back in the mouth when not in use. Their eyes have vertical pupils, and their scales are keeled. Vipers range in length from less than 25 cm (10 inches) in the Namaqua dwarf viper (

Viper Snake
Sergio Garcia
The viper snake is very colorful and robust. The viper snake in the rain forest lives in wet places and also in mountains in small caves. Their bright colors in their skin help them survive.
The viper snake is a very short snake compared to most of the other type of snakes. She is 50 to 65cm long. But the viper snake has a very robust body. The viper snake has red and some have brown eyes they have yellow skin but some are also green. This color helps the viper snake camouflage. The viper snake lives in the forest floor.
The viper snake mainly lives in places that are wet in the rainforest like woodlands; riverbanks, bogs and also they live in mountains. The snake adapts by; they hang with their tail to a branch and catch their prey. Another way is when a bird passes the viper snake camouflages in the bushes and captures the bird. The viper snake mainly eats amphibians and the snake can stay a whole year without eating.
The diet of the viper snake is amphibians, small mammals, lizards and nestling. The way the snake kills its prey to eat it is, first they capture the prey and puts their venom in the prey and they wait for the effect of the venom and then it eats it. The snake protects itself by camouflage and also with their bite.

VIPER SNAKES Vipers are a venomous species found in central and South America . Small and arboreal, these snakes are characterized by their wide array of color variations, as well as the superscalar scales over the eyes. This is a relatively small species that rarely exceed 75 cm in length, with females being larger than males. They have a wide, triangular-shaped head and eyes with vertical pupils. Like all pit vipers, have large, hypodermic needle like fangs in the upper jaw that fold back when not in use, and have heat sensitive organs, or pits, located on either side of the head between the eye and nostril. It’s most distinguishing feature, and origin of its common name, is the set of modified scales over the eyes that look much like eyelashes. The eyelashes are thought to aid in camouflage, breaking up the snake's outline among the foliage it usually hides in. Vipers occurs in a wide range of colors, including red, yellow, brown, green, even pink, as well as various combinations thereof. They often have black or brown speckling on the base color.

Welcome to venomous.com
This page is in no way comprehensive and is only intended to give a brief overview into the keeping of venomous animals. I'd just like to provide some education into these fascinating animals.
Although these types of animals are dangerous, they are also very interesting. They cover all areas of the world and all types of terrains. From the Arctic (Northern Adder) to the desert (Saw Scale Viper), they are amazingly adaptable and successful. Slipping into complacency is not an option when keeping these animals.
Take a look at this Western Diamondback bite to see what the consequences are.
Responsibility is a must. Thrill seekers need not apply.

EYELASH VIPER
Name: Eyelash Viper Scientific name: Bothriechis schleglii Range: Neotripical:  Southern Mexico to Venezuela and Ecuador Habitat: Tropical and montane rain forest, cloud forests; usually found in shrubbery, vine tangles, trees and palms, most adjacent to streams and rivers Status: Threatened by large mammals, humans, disturbance of natural habitat, hedgehoges, foxes, badgers, other snakes and fish.  Diet in the wild: Small mammals, birds and nestlings, frogs and lizards Diet in the zoo: Prekilled mice Location in the zoo:  Herpetarium
    Physical description:
    • The name comes from a patch of bristly scales above each eye that tend to look like eyelashes. They tend to reach from 22-32 inches in length. Color has a great variety that usually depends on the geographical origin of snake..  Have a pair of heat-sensitive pits between the eyes and nostrils.  They tend to have very long fangs.

    General information:
The eyelash viper is a nocturnal, arboreal animal.  This  means that it does most of its hunting from late evening through early morning, and more than likely in, from, or around trees.  When subduing its prey, the snake grabs it and holds on while it injects a hemotoxic venom.  The snake holds on until the animal is dead and then proceeds to swallow it by "walking" it down the throat by moving one side of its jaw at a time.
