Washington Elementary is one of four K-5 buildings in the district. The 12 classrooms include two sections of grades kindergarten through five. Space is also available for other programs and services including special education, Reading Recovery, library, music, and computers. All the teachers at Washington Elementary are highly qualified and provide a warm and safe learning environment for our students.
Enrollment at Washington averages just over 270 students. The distribution of boys and girls is almost evenly split. Approximately 23% of the Washington School students qualify for free and reduced meals. The breakfast program serves about 10% of the students daily. The Native American population makes up close to 10% of the total enrollment. Curriculum offerings at Washington are similar to those of the other elementary buildings. Consistency is maintained K-5 across the district as much as possible to reduce student anxiety as they move between buildings. Like the other schools, programs available to students beyond the ‘traditional’ curriculum of reading, math, social studies and science include: DARE (fifth grade); Junior Achievement (third through fifth grade); Boost Up (K-3 during PE); Character Education (K-5); and the National Geographic Bee (fourth and fifth grade).

Both the UW and Seattle have well developed technology and arts communities that already intersect in significant ways. Seattle is a "destination city" and magnet for the creative class who often move seamlessly between technology and the arts. The practicing bar is highly sophisticated with many firms specializing in emerging growth tech companies across the spectrum of the life sciences, information technology, and new media/digital arts. LTA is deeply connected to this community through its directors, staff, and adjunct faculty.
A Message from Dean Kellye Y. Testy
LTA integrates and administers all of the UW School of Law's education, research, and outreach in the areas of tech law, art law, and intellectual property. A single set of faculty Directors oversee a robust J.D. and LL.M. curriculum, an integrated tech and art law clinic, an established journal, an internationally renowned set of annual conferences and a new speaker series. We hope you will join us as we build on the world class art and technology communities centered at the UW and in Seattle to establish LTA as the hub of dialogue on the intersection of law, technology, and arts. Innovation in all its forms is the lifeblood of twenty-first century economies. Innovation in the law is needed to ensure that innovation in technology and arts is vibrantly promoted and properly regulated. LTA's mission is to simultaneiously consider both of these sides to the law's role in creativity and innovation through outstanding teaching, research, and service.
