    Scientific Name:
Physignathus cocincinus Other Names : Green Water Dragon, Asian Water Dragon
Note: Chinese Water Dragons are native to Asia. There is another species of Water dragon, Physignathus lesueurii , native to Australia.
    Life Span:
    10-20 years.
    Size:
Males reach an adult length (including the tail) of about 3 feet, while females are smaller (aroung 2 feet). A large portion of the overal length is made up of the tail.
    Appearance:
Chinese Water Dragons are green, ranging from a dark to quite light green. Vertical slanted stripes of green or turquoise are found on the body. Their bellies are white or pale yellow, and their throats can be quite colorful (yellow, orange, peach). The long tail is narrow and banded with green and brown (and it is also a powerful weapon!). Adult males have larger heads than females, and develop larger crests on the back of the head and neck.
    Housing - Tank:
Water dragons need large enclosures - a minimum size for adult dragon is 6 feet long, 2-3 feet deep, and 5-6 feet tall. An enclosure of this size will likely need to be custom made and is going to be costly. Unless you know your dragons are accurately sexed, you may be better of with just one - a male and female pair will likely get along, two males and even two females may display aggression unless given lots of space in a very large enclosure.

Expert: Pam - 7/11/2008 Question Do water dragons hibernate? If so for how long? Cause my water dragons are sleeping the all time and they get cranky if i force them to eat , i am concern cause they don't want food. Answer Sounds like a light and heat problem. They are tropical animals and need heat, light, UVB and humidity in order to digest food properly. I am including a caresheet for you to compare your set-up to. If you are measuring temperatures with a stick on, get a digital with a probe to get an accurate reading.

The Chinese water dragon is not a mythological character originating from the Chinese culture. It is a real life reptile from the agamid family of lizards that is native to China and other Asian countries. These lizards have intrigued many people around the world who have become obsessed with the Chinese water dragon and often adopt a baby dragon as a pet. The baby Chinese water dragon can grow up to a length of three feet in due time. The lizard is known for its calm personality and cool looks, which is one of the reasons it has become a popular choice for keeping as a pet. The nature of the lizard is such that it stays happy in captivity and has no problem eating or breeding while in captivity. Diet In its natural environment the baby Chinese water dragon feeds on different insects in order to get its daily dose of essential nutrients. It may also feed on plant material and fruits. When the lizard grows into its own it may even feed on small mice and fish. In captivity however the lizard is fed nutrient supplements that are readily available in the market in different forms. In the world of zoology the water dragon is known as physignathus cocincinus. Around the world however the Chinese water dragon is also known as the Asian water dragon and the Green water dragon. Although the lizard is primarily native to southeastern Asia it is also found in the island country of Australia.
