Welcome to 'Weed Science' research conducted by Richard N. Arnold, College Professor at New Mexico State University's Agricultural Science Center - Farmington.
Weed Science research began, in 1980, at the New Mexico State University's San Juan Branch Station (today known as the Agricultural Science Center) located approximately seven miles southwest of Farmington, NM. the research facility encompasses 253 acres leased from the Navajo Nation and located on Navajo Agricultural Products Industry (NAPI) farmland within the Region 2 boundaries. The Station received all its irrigation from the Navajo Indian Irrigation Project (NIIP). The water delivery system had been installed on approximately 170 acres of the 180 acres suitable for irrigation. It would be some years before a sprinkler irrigation system would be used on the week control experimental plots.

Welcome to the IWSS Web site!
The International Weed Science Society (IWSS) was formed in 1975, by individuals from Europe, North America, South America, and the Asian-Pacific area, to deal with global weed science issues. The Society has held five highly successful International Weed Control Congresses, in Australia (1992), Denmark (1996), Brazil (2000), South Africa (2004) and Vancouver, Canada (2008). The IWSS is a worldwide scientific organization, open to all who are interested in weeds and their control. The formation of IWSS was promoted actively by the six existing regional weed science societies. The purpose of IWSS is to supplement and complement their vital role. Additionally, IWSS provides benefits and functions of a weed science society not currently existing at a national or regional level. NEW The September 2010 issue of the newsletter is now available ( September 2010 (801 KB) The VI TH International Weed Science Congress (IWSC) will take place in Hangzhou, China. 17-22 June, 2012 The First Circular is out and can be seen here.

The potential yield of crop varieties will remain a mere illusion, unless and until proper weed management package is adapted. As all these varieties had been evolved under optimum weed management conditions, the weedy conditions of the farmers are not conducive for their yield. Under such circumstances, farmers’ own varieties or land races are better yielder and competitors as compared to the modern improved cultivars. Weeds inflict 20-30% losses in different crops on the average. On national level total monitory losses due to weeds well exceed beyond 120 billion, whereas wheat alone account for more than 30 billions. Losses in different crops is depicted in the following figure. rd INTERNATIONAL WEED SCIENCE CONGRESS OF
