Search: - G. Ben Protection of Wildlife and Endangerred Species While Wisconsin is blessed with many natural areas, our wildlife still face several threats over the long term. We need to support programs which will protect wildlife and endangered species, or risk losing some of them.
Key Threats to Wildlife
1. Habitat Loss - Because our population is growing and our cities are sprawling into the countryside, fewer natural wildlife habitat areas are left each year. And the habitat that remains has often been degraded to bear little resemblance to the natural wild areas which existed in the past. In many areas, only islands of habitat remain, isolated in the middle of large agricultural or urban developments - preventing normal interactions, healthy breeding or safe travel for many species. Some wildlife species, such as deer, rabbits and chipmunks, are adaptable to many conditions, but other creatures have very specific plant, moisture and temperature requirements. These are the endangered species which we risk losing if we don't preserve adequate amounts of habitat for their survival.

Wildlife Management
Game Species Endangered Species FORESTRY AND WILDLIFE INSEPARABLE PARTNERS by Rhett Johnson Wildlife Habitat Still, the long-term key to wildlife management lies not in direct control of numbers and populations of animals, but in the provisions of suitable quality habitat. Habitat is where animals live. It must provide the food, water, cover and other needs of the wildlife species it supports. This is not a secret shared only by forest managers, but most forest wildlife habitat is managed by foresters. It is not a coincidence that the recovery of many wildlife populations in Alabama took place when forest industry and private landowners began to practice good forest management in the state. "Carrying Capacity" There is a principle of wildlife management called "carry capacity ". The term describes the capability of a unit of land to support a wildlife species or group of species. Carrying capacity is determined by factors that managers cannot control, like soil type, rainfall, climate, geographic region, etc., and by a number of other factors that can be artificially modified, such as plant community, age class, diversity, and a host of others. On some public lands and private hunting preserves, those management decisions are made by wildlife biologists

Fur Hunting and Trapping in Illinois
Trappers are some of the biggest champions of wildlife conservation in Illinois. There are more than 3,000 licensed trappers in the state.
Regulated hunting and trapping play important roles in the ecology and conservation of Illinois’ furbearers - mammals that are hunted and trapped primarily for fur.
This website focuses specifically on regulated hunting and trapping as beneficial ways to manage Illinois furbearers. Illinois Department of Natural Resources manages and regulates hunting and trapping. DNR ensures that these activities are safe, efficient and practical. In this manner, hunting and trapping provide recreational and economic opportunities for Illinois residents while helping to maintain a balance between the needs of people and wildlife. Hunting and trapping are highly regulated.

http://www.cviog.uga.edu/publications/gsb/student/wildlife/index.htm
The following represents a small sample of the hundreds of thousands of species of wildlife found in Georgia. The term "wildlife" refers to mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates (including insects) that live in the wild. It does not include domesticated animals such as dogs, cats, and cattle which are closely tied to humans for their existence. Why are some species of wildlife included in this website, while others are omitted? One reason is some of the animals are particularly interesting or are endangered or threatened. Also, we tried to include wildlife where government agencies or scientists had already produced narrative descriptions or images. e-mail us Finally, if you are curious about a particular species of wildlife not yet covered in this web site, try checking out the Georgia Wildlife Web site of the Georgia Museum of Natural History .
