A Special Department Of Planet-Pets Information Wildlife Species Index Endangered Species Animal Alert! Wildlife For Kids ... Wildlife Links 'Wild' alludes to a process of self-organization that generates systems and organisms, all of which are within the constraints ofand constitute components oflarger systems that again are wild, such as major ecosystems or the water cycle in the biosphere. Wildness can be said to be the essential nature of nature. As reflected in consciousness, it can be seen as a kind of open awarenessfull of imagination but also the source of alert survival intelligence. The workings of the human mind at its very richest reflect this self-organizing wildness.
So language does not impose order on a chaotic universe, but reflects its own wildness back. Florida Wildlife Offsite links will open in another browser window. The wildlife of Florida is rich and varied, yet most of us are familiar with only a dozen or so species: the "flagship" endangered species such as manatees and panthers; those, like raccoons and squirrels, that have adapted to urban environments; the frightening alligators and black bears; and those like the armadillo who can't seem to cross the road. Yet they are just a few of the many animal species found in Florida.

Wildlife Crime Unit
In Britain the responsibility for enforcement of the laws protecting our wildlife rests with the police service. However, many different offences are committed against wildlife in this country every year, and this is what we mean by wildlife crime. It is easy to think of wildlife crime as being something that happens in the countryside, and many people do not associate it with London. However, the London area is home to a wide range of wild species, including many which are protected in law. Rare species like Peregrine Falcons, Black Redstarts, Dormice and Stag Beetles are resident here and share the capital with the more often seen foxes and, of course the cockney sparrows. Some of these do become victims of wildlife crime, but much of the work of the Wildlife Crime Unit concerns wildlife which lives elsewhere in Britain, or in other countries and which is the subject of crimes committed by people in London. For example, some London people travel to other parts of Britain to take the eggs of rare birds, or even the birds themselves, which do not live here, and endangered species in other countries are killed to supply wildlife products which are in demand in London.

SCORECARD HOME ABOUT CASCADIA SCORECARD: measuring what matters sources
Trend at a glance
The five Cascadian wildlife populations tracked by the Scorecard remain far below their historic abundance. But there are a few promising signs for these Northwest icons. Wolves have staged a remarkable comeback in Montana and Idaho in recent years, while chinook salmon and southern resident orca populations both experienced promising (though perhaps temporary) gains. Even the fragile Selkirk caribou population had showed some tentative increases before a recent stumble. Oregon's greater sage-grouse, however, continue to struggle. To move these species off life support, Cascadians can work to restore the natural landscapes and ecosystems on which they depend. Updated June 2010. More about wildlife
What the wildlife indicator measures and why
The Cascadia Scorecard's wildlife indicator tracks five key wildlife populations: gray wolves in Idaho and Montana; the Selkirk herd of mountain caribou; Oregon's greater sage-grouse; the southern resident orcas of Puget Sound and the Strait of Georgia; and the chinook salmon that return in the spring and summer to the Columbia River.
