I'm a 62 year old married father of two, living and working in the U.K. My interests have always included natural history and photography and with the advent of the digital darkroom these combined hobbies have really taken off. The photographic focus of this site is therefore the fauna and flora of the U.K.
The Cameras used for the majority of photographs on this site are a Fuji S2 Pro. and a Fuji S5 Pro., with AF VR-Nikkor 80-400, Sigma 20-40, AF Nikkor 28-105 and Nikkon 500mm prime lenses. I also use a Nikkon 4500 camera with a TSN3 spotting scope for digiscoping.
Photographing in west Scotland.

What I have tried to do in the following pages is to provide the correct information on the animals. Throughout the Internet there are any number of sites that have incorrect or misleading information which leads to wrong conclusions about them. Another point that must be brought up is that wild animals are animals not furry cuddly play things. Hippo's are very dangerous animals and they don't like humans. They're not misunderstood they're hippos and will act in their nature to protect and feed themselves.
We know so little about animals that the little we do know can posibly give you information that will prevent injury or death. I need to make a comment about wild animals that are somewhat domesticated by indivduals, they don't lose there inherent behavioral responses to their environment and are capable destroying and reverting to the wild, and unfortunatley it happens.
Wild animals should be in the wild, with the exception of some zoo's or wildlife preserves, not in peoples homes or backyards.

Wildlife Photography Tips
Wildlife photography can be extremely challenging for visitors to game reserves. When we first started visiting African national parks this was the scenario that I think many of you can relate to... "Hi Mom, look at the picture I took at Etosha..." "Very nice dear - what is it?" "Well Mom, if you look over to the right of the picture you can see the rhino...". Need we say more! If you are visiting an African national park it will most probably be an expensive event with travel and accommodation costs, plus you may have just bought yourself a new digital camera or lens or the latest accessory and you want to return home confident that you have obtained value for money. Wildlife photography can be extremely rewarding if you follow a few basics, which we will share with you from our fifteen years of experience of photographing African wildlife. The next few pages will provide you with wildlife photography tips and tricks that have enabled us to capture these kinds of photographs...

Wildlife and Nature Photography
Photographing nature and wildlife can be one of the most rewarding hobbies anyone can take up. No matter if you are working with birds or landscapes, there is no better feeling than seeing the results of your photographic achievement hanging proudly from a wall. All wildlife photography, including birds, can be one of the most challenging genres in photography. The reason for this is the photographer's inability to control the subject. Since I am an avid nature, wildlife and bird photographer, I like to share my nature and wildlife experiences and work with others. Periodically, I will jot down my thoughts and feelings on a particular subject relating to wildlife, bird, or digital photography and place them in the articles and tips section of this website. You might also want to check out the wildlife and nature photo/tip of the month where I display a new image each month and explain how the nature or wildlife image was achieved. If you enjoy looking at photographs of nature, wildlife, birds, and felines, then you should check out my

I watched him tear down the tree between us
As a wildlife photographer in India, being charged by a tiger sometime in your life is almost a certainty Next morning when we went back to the same spot and looked at the ditch I had relied on so much, I almost did a back flip and died. I think I was very lucky I'd come across an extremely hungry elephant more intent on his meal than on a man at his feet flashing light every now and then. I remember hoping he thought the flash was lightning but why would lightning flash from the ground!! I guess you do have to be a little nutty in the head to be a wildlife photographer.
Nutty but still keep your wits around you to work your way around problems and get yourself out of dangerous situations which could turn ugly very suddenly. I have been charged and chased by elephants on fourteen different occasions, thrice by tigers and once even had the pleasure of sitting on an elephant charging a tiger. If these things aren't for you, don't even think of getting into wildlife photography.
