Teacher Certification in Wisconsin
Wisconsin is second only to California in dairy product production and is the nation's leader when it comes to cheese production. Although nearly half of the state is covered by dense forests, Wisconsin is also a major agricultural producer, leading the nation in growing corn (silage), cranberry, and snap beans. Wisconsin also boasts a strong and lucrative tourism trade. One of the most popular attractions is the Wisconsin Dells, which draws about three million visitors to the state each year. Wisconsin is also home to the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture, which attracts aircraft enthusiasts from around the world.

Getting Certified to Teach and Work in Education
Teacher Certification is the first step in achieving your career goals. Would you like to help children read and instill in them a life-long love of books? How about math and science concepts that pique their interests enough to become our future economists or scientists? Regardless of what subject you decide to teach, education is a precious gift that stays with a person throughout their life. Teachers are so important because they have a real opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Whether teaching children, supporting the work of teacher, or creating the curriculum children will learn, becoming involved in education represents an important responsibility-one that requires adequate preparation. The teacher certification process will allow you to learn the best ways to teach essential concepts, motivate your students, and successfully manage a classroom. Studying educational technology or curriculum development will allow you to create the tools children need to learn effectively. By learning to be a teacher’s aide or an educational manager or administrator you can support teachers in their important work.

The Program
Acceptance for the MTEC/Lakeland College teacher certification program requires passing scores on the Pre-Professional Skills Test ( Praxis I ) as well as a passing score on the appropriate Praxis II content test. Candidates must meet all of the admission requirements BEFORE beginning the certification program. The MTEC certification model is a proficiency based model similar to that of an Apprenticeship program. Part of the learning occurs through face to face and online coursework. The other part of learning occurs "on the job" with support and encouragement provided by a veteran mentor, Milwaukee Public Schools and the school to which the student is assigned. Certification students become members of a cadre that meets regularly with an instructor.

The Pre-Service preparation provides the background knowledge and introduces the fundamental strategies needed to successfully manage a classroom. The Pre-Service includes:

January 2008 Background on Adult Learners Adult education programs serve both learners who are native English speakers and those whose first, or native, language is not English. Native English speakers attend adult basic education (ABE) classes to learn the skills needed to earn high school equivalency certificates or to achieve other goals related to job, family, or further education. English language learners attend English as a second language (ESL), ABE, or workforce preparation classes to improve their oral and literacy skills in English and to achieve goals similar to those of native English speakers. Audience for This Brief This brief is written for program administrators, education researchers, and policy makers concerned with professionalizing the workforce of educators who serve adult English language learners.

Admission/Graduation Requirements
As of this writing the Computer Science Department has no admission requirements for
the Computer Science major. Therefore any student who chooses to do so may enroll as a Computer Science major.
To be eligible for graduation, students must meet all requirements for the degree being sought in addition to earning a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in all courses required for the Computer Science major or minor.
In addition to University and College requirements, students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in those computer science (Comp Sci) courses numbered 300 or above that are used to satisfy the requirements of the Computer Science major excluding Comp Sci 399, Comp Sci 446, Comp Sci 456, Comp Sci 474, and Comp Sci 490.
Please note that this statement implies that if a student completes more than the minimum number of courses required for a specific emphasis, the student may designate those courses that will be used for computing the grade point average when more than one choice is possible. The resulting set of designated courses must satisfy the requirements of a specific emphasis of the Computer Science major.
