Latin Word Origins
Latin Word Origins Latin is one of the oldest and most influential languages in the world. Throughout time, Latin has faded away and become extinct because nobody speaks it as a native language anymore. Originally, Latin was used in Ancient Rome and Latium. As the Roman Empire expanded, Latin spread throughout its territories, solidifying its status as the most important language in Central and Western Europe, right up to the 17 th century. Latin can be classified into Classical Latin and Vulgar Latin. Classical Latin was the more refined dialect, usually used in literary expressions while Vulgar Latin was used by common folks. As the Roman Empire declined, Latin suffered a similar fate. By the 9 th century, Vulgar Latin deviated into various Romance languages such as Catalan, Corsican, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Romanian, and others. After the Western Roman Empire fell, the Catholic Church adopted Latin, thereby prolonging its survival, especially in the circle of the educated classes. Then known as Medieval Latin, the Renaissance Humanists used it, but it was spoken by less and less people after the 16 th century. Nevertheless, Medieval Latin was still in use for academic purposes up to the 18

      Urdu Introduction
Urdu language is full of beauty and grace, a language that seems to have been custom-built for literature, a language that adds meaning to prose and charm to poetry, a language of elegance and polish, a language that marked the dignified from the unlearned, the noble from the ordinary, a language that belonged in the courts of the powerful, in the schools of the wise and the homes of the erudite, a language that might have past the zenith of its splendor, but is still spoken by a many. The word Urdu is believed to be derived from the Turkish, word 'Ordu', which means army encampment ("Lashkar" in Urdu) but most of its vocabulary is derived from Persian and Arabic. Urdu is spoken by large population across the globe and has served as a communication bridge between different cultures and people from different parts of the world. Urdu literature is considered one of the richest in literature history especially in poetry and prose. In native terms, these forms are referred as 'ghazal', 'nazm' and afsana and one can find Urdu Poetry and Urdu Prose writers in profusion, mostly from South Asia.

    Crypt
(Or LOWER CHURCH). The word originally meant a hidden place, natural or artificial, suitable for the concealment of persons or things. When visits to the burial-places without the walls of Rome fell into disuse there ensued a curious change. The Church , no longer able to go out to honour the martyrs , brought the martyrs within the walls, and instead of building churches above the tombs , dug tombs under the churches in which the precious relics were deposited. This was the origin, first of the confessio of the basilicas , and, at a later period, of the crypt which answered the same purpose in the churches of the early Middle Ages . In this way the Romanesque crypt is the direct descendant of the hypogoeum or excavation of the early Christian catacomb . The term crypt is sometimes used to signify the lower story of a two-storied building, e.g. the lower chapel of the Sainte-Chapelle at Paris , and, of the church San Francesco at Assisi ; and in England the overground ground crypt of St. Ethelredra's Chapel in London which is all that remains of the great episcopal palace called Ely Place.

    Idea
Latin idea, forma, species; Greek idea eidos , from idein , to see; French German Bild; Begriff Probably to no other philosophical term have there been attached so many different shades of meaning as to the word idea. Yet what this word signifies is of much importance. Its sense in the minds of some philosophers is the key to their entire system. But from Descartes onwards usage has become confused and inconstant. Locke , in particular, ruined the term altogether in English philosophical literature , where it has ceased to possess any recognized definite meaning. He tells us himself at the beginning of his "Essay on the Human Understanding" that in this treatise "the word Idea stands for whatever is the object of the understanding when a man thinks. I have used it to express whatever is meant by phantasm, notion, species , or whatever it is which the mind can be employed about when thinking." In fact, with him it denotes, indifferently , a sensation, a perception, an image of the imagination , a concept of the intellect , an emotional feeling, and sometimes the external material object which is perceived or imagined

Word origin study is a fascinating way to discover the history of language and of a people. Learning where words in a language originated can tell us a lot about early influences on a society. Word origin in the English language, for example, indicates that this culture originated from many others. Many of our most commonly used words are Latin based, but come from countries as distinct as Italy, Spain and France. Their incorporation into our language is indicative of the exploration, invasion and emigration, reflecting world history on a large scale. Word Origin - A View of Cultural Diversity
Word origin knowledge, according to Joseph T. Shipley, author of Dictionary of Word Origins Word Origin - A View of the Times
Word origin in America today shares its base with England, but has developed its own personality through its multicultural heritage. It's a topic that can fascinate students of history and students of language. Writers, in particular, find their skills enhanced by understanding the roots and national origins of words. Such knowledge enriches our ability to comprehend meaning, especially in reading classic literature from times past.
Because we are a people in flux, new words are being added to our menu choices almost daily. Some turn out to be "slang" that is temporary in nature, so it fades in time. Other terms become part of a culture's vernacular based on frequency of use as well as a change in that culture's way of life, such as many of the words and phrases connected to our current computer-based lifestyle. These words, such as "multi-tasking," "interfacing," and "online/offline," were either unknown or have enhanced their meanings in the last 20-30 years.

    38. CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Hosanna
The general opinion is that of St. Jerome, that the word originated from two Hebrew words of Psalm cxvii (cxviii), 25. When the priest reached verses 25-26, the trumpet sounded, all the people, including boys, waved their branches of palms , myrtles, willows, etc., and shouted with the priest the words: "O Domine, salvum (me) fac; o Domine, bene prosperare.
