22. Odin's Castle Of Dreams & Legends
An Archive of History and Historical Resources. All time periods from dawn of man to today.
http://www.odinscastle.org/

Well, it is now well past mid-2009 and the Castle has just had its latest update. Hopefully, you will find no broken links or otherwise non-functional items anywhere in the Castle. Now just as surely as I say that, I or someone will find one. But overall, I think you will have to look awfully hard....... If, however, you do find any non-working ones, or if you have a site that you think would make a good addition to the Castle, then please let us know. There is an e-mail link on every page. I would like to thank all of you, our Castle visitors, for making Odin's Castle as success. We have past the half-million mark in visitors and hope to make the other half soon. All the credit goes to you, our loyal fans, who have visited us often and have told your friends about it. Another reminder, to truly enjoy the look of Odin's Castle, you need to have the font Frazier Wide installed on your computer. Apparently, some of you have not been able to download the file properly. Therefore, I have changed it to a .zip file and now, hopefully, everyone can get the Fraser Wide font. To download and install the font, please follow these directions. First, click here The Most Lovely Lady Gwynnevere and I have just completed the 10th year of our honeymoon. It shows no sign of ending and I have been truly blessed in this regard. I guess when you meet that special someone, that is what happens. If you think I am kidding, just visit the Chamber of the Bard and take a look at our poems to each other. It does indeed get better every day....... Fortunately for me, I have finally retired from work and work has no longer interferred with my web surfing, which has given me more time to work on Castle. So if you find a site you think would be great for the Castle, just drop me an e-mail and I will add it.

Homework Help: Social Studies: World History: General History of Latin
by Emily McPherson Have you ever found yourself telling a friend or relative, "Carpe diem," ('seize the day') and wondered where it came from? Well, many people might think that it is Spanish, but in truth it is Latin. There is also the fact that Spanish, being one of the Romance languages, is derived from Latin. You may also have heard quid pro quo, ex post facto, ad hoc, and de facto. Latin has had a tremendous influence on several languages. Do you ever wonder how or why? The first thing to explore is where Latin started out. It grew out of the tongue that was originally brought by the Indo-European people who migrated to eastern and southern Italy around the end of the Trojan War (1193 B.C.). It evolved into Latin and then was spoken mainly by the Romans in their city of Rome and the region around it. As the Romans were increased their mighty empire, Latin slowly expanded to the remaining sector around the western Mediterranean Sea. The following are the different periods of ancient literary Latin: the Early Period, the Golden Age, the Silver Age, and the Late Latin Period. Each period changed Latin and how more forms were added to the language. There was also Medieval Latin and Modern Latin. Finally, a look at what the Latin language has become at the end of the 20th century: how we use it and what we think of it.

      Salt: A World History
I recently read and highly recommend this book by Mark Kurlansky to anyone interested in salt or world history. It's a fun and interesting romp through the ages, following salt from ancient history to the present. It's written as a popular non-academic history and, as such, is a pretty quick read for the beach or whatever vacation you're on. I thought his most interesting chapters were on salt in the ancient world and how important it was in the transition to a merchant economy. The strength of the book is that is uses salt as a mechanism to explore interesting stories and personalities from around history. Kurlansky does not view the world through a lens of salt (i.e., treating all events as revolving around salt), but rather, uses salt as a means to explore history. Good stuff.

Subject: KB News Well, the latest issue (#23) of *Homeground*, "the International Kate Bush Fanzine" arrived a few days ago and there's some new news: Kate is now working on her next album. She hopes to begin recording very shortly and the target date for completion is sometime next Spring (and if you believe that one, I have a very nice Orgone Accumulator for sale, real cheap.) [It's 1986!! WIE] Date: Fri, 29 May 87 19:22 PDT
From: IED0DXM%UCLAMVS.BITNET@wiscvm.wisc.edu
Subject: KBVI You'd be well advised not to expect KBVI earlier than 1989. That's IED's opinion, anyway. We should be grateful for the delay, since every month is testimony to Kate's continuing perfectionism. Date: Sat, 24 Oct 87 18:20 PDT
From: IED0DXM%UCLAMVS.BITNET@wiscvm.wisc.edu
Subject: KT NEWS IED has a tiny bit more concrete information to give you all as a guideline for this topic, through the courtesy of the new issue (#28) of Homeground, "The International Kate Bush Fanzine". It says that according to people "close" to Kate (i.e., probably Del or Paddy, with whom the HG crew are quite chummy now, IED thinks), there are now seven tracks in a "nearly complete state", and "many" of these seven are "'up-tempo'".
