Repasz Band and World War I
by John L. Hunsinger
When the U.S. entered World War I (WWI) in April 1917, many bandsmen from central Pennsylvania joined the Repasz Band, one of the oldest bands of its kind in continuous existence. The Repasz band had previously served in the Civil War (it played at the surrender of Lee to Grant at Appomatox) and as the band of the 12th Regiment of the National Guard of Pennsylvania (1903-1912). This enlarged Repasz Band split into two bands. The younger men were formed into the "Repasz War Band" in July of 1917, with the rest staying in the regular band. The "War Band" met for rehearsals two to three times a week and it was reported that "all are enthusiastic over the instructions they are receiving from John Hazel who is Grit , July 22, 1917). In September of 1917, 32 of the original 67 men who had volunteered for service were sent to the naval training center at Charlotte, New York. Repasz Band member S. M. Wachtel, who had recruited the band, served as its leader.

BOOK WorldHistorySite.com back to: Home Page Predicting the future Some Patterns in World History and How they can be Used to Predict the Future Civilizations belong to a living culture and have characteristics of living organisms. They rise and fall in the cycles of life. World historians have identified certain societies that have gone through the complete cycle. Rome's civilization, once powerful, has now become extinct. So have civilizations of the Babylonian, Mayan, Sinic, Indic, Syriac, and other societies. Civilization, in a broad sense, transcends the life cycles of individual societies, passing its culture along to peoples in many parts of the earth. But they, too, have come one after another to comprise successive historical epochs. Four civilizations have already come and developed to a mature state. Another has recently appeared on the cultural horizon; it remains in embryonic form. That makes five civilizations altogether, which are: Civilization I: This is the earliest form of civilized society beginning in the 4th millennium B.C. with the rise of Mesopotamian and Egyptian city-states and culminating in the four great empires - Roman, Parthian, Kushan, and Han Chinese - of the 2nd and early 3rd centuries A.D. Its age was characterized by by conflict between nomadic and agricultural societies and by wars and political empire-building. The technology of writing (originally, in ideographic form) supported its culture.

POST-WORLD WAR I HISTORY
During the 1920s and '30s, a new, more realistic style of photography gained prominence, a reflection, perhaps, of post-World War I disillusionment. At the close of the war, Steichen, who had been in command of aerial photography for the American Expeditionary Forces, abandoned the broad, impressionistic style he had earlier practiced for sharply focused portraits of celebrities, taken for Vanity Fair and Vogue magazines. The painter Charles Sheeler used the camera to record the stark beauty of Pennsylvania barns and the forms of industrial structures. In California, Edward Weston , who had been working as a photographer for more than 15 years, turned in 1923 to a more direct and realistic use of the camera, with a certain emphasis upon abstract form that he never allowed to detract from the recognition of subject matter. "The camera should be used for a recording of life, " he wrote in 1924, "for rendering the very substance and quintessence of the thing itself

Overview of World War I
Love Hate World War I What started out as a local European war soon became a global war that lasted from 1914-1918. World War I was the first war that involved nations (28 to be exact) from around the world , and is commonly called The Great War or The War to End All Wars . Check out the historical facts on World War I.
World War I - Outbreak of War
On June 28, 1914, a Serbian nationalist named Gavrilo Princip assassinated Franz Ferdinand (no, not the band), the Archduke of Austria, in Sarajevo. Exactly one month later, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. The war divided Europe into two armed camps - on one side was the Triple Alliance made up of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy, and their enemy was the Triple Entente of France

ww1 or World War I (also known as the First World War , the Great War, and the "War to End All Wars") was a conflict that lasted from 1914 to 1918. Chemical weapons, like poison gas were used for the first time, the first mass bombardment of civilians from the sky was executed, and some of the century's first genocides took place during the war. No previous conflict had mobilized so many soldiers, or involved so many in the field of battle. Never before had casualties been so high. ww1 was also a war of change, a last blow to the old order in Europe to pave way for the new. Dynasties such as the Habsburgs, Romanovs, and Hohenzollerns, who had dominated the European political landscape and had roots of power back to the days of the Crusades, all fell after the four-year war. Many of the events and phenomena that would dominate the world of the twentieth century can trace their origins to ww1 — including Communism, World War II and even the Cold War.
ww1 was commonly called "The Great War" or sometimes "the war to end all wars" until World War II started, although the name "First World War" was coined as early as 1920 by Lt-Col à Court Repington in The First World War 1914–18. Some scholars write of the WW1 as merely the first phase of a 30-year-long war spanning the period 1914–1945.

Today the signs of the times tell us that we are standing on the threshold of grave and controversial events. It seems that the entire world is in an uproar. Before our eyes, the prophecy of Jesus in reference to the events just before His second coming are being fulfilled: "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. For nation will rise against nation... And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows" Matt. 24:6-8 The present and future are of great interest for all mankind. More and more people realize that something great and decisive is about to take place; that the world is on the brink of an overwhelming crisis. The daily news is filled with catastrophes and violence of every kind. Jesus Himself prophesied that during the time of the end there would be "on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity" and "Men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth..." Luke 21:25-26
The Amazing Prophecy of the Great World Empires
In the Bible, especially in the books of Daniel (Dan.) and in Revelation (Rev.), many events both historical and present-day are clearly prophesied. A careful study of these books helps us to see God's purpose in the history of nations. It helps us to understand the true meaning and purpose of life and the plan of salvation for mankind through God's Son Jesus Christ.
