Biochemistry
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Biochemistry is the study of the chemical processes and transformations in living organisms . It deals with the structure and function of cellular components , such as proteins carbohydrates lipids nucleic acids , and other biomolecules . Chemical biology aims to answer many questions arising from biochemistry by using tools developed within synthetic chemistry Although there are a vast number of different biomolecules, many are complex and large molecules (called polymers ) that are composed of similar repeating subunits (called monomers ). Each class of polymeric biomolecule has a different set of subunit types. For example, a protein is a polymer made up of many amino acids . Biochemistry studies the chemical properties of important biological molecules, like proteins, in particular the chemistry of enzyme catalyzed reactions (enzymes are a type of protein). The biochemistry of cell metabolism and the endocrine system has been extensively described. Other areas of biochemistry include the genetic code DNA RNA protein synthesis ... cell membrane transport, and

Scientific Symposia
DSBMB members are invited to 6-8 symposia every year in Copenhagen, Odense or Aarhus covering topics at the cutting edge in molecular biology, biotechnology, functional genomics, pharmacology and systems biology.
BioZoom Magazine
BioZoom is a quarterly journal published since 1997 for DSBMB members with articles and debate on research policy, biotech industry, science history, ethics, education, European science and university reform.
Annual Meeting
For more than 30 years DSBMB members have gathered at the annual meeting in October to meet active scientists and form network with colleagues from universities, research institutions and industry.
FEBS Membership
As member of DSBMB you are automatically member of Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) and can apply for FEBS fellowships, participate in FEBS courses and receive FEBS NewsLetter.
