Bioinformatics Training Program for Health Research
The CIHR/MSFHR bioinformatics training program operates as a scholarship program for a select number of students who are undertaking a Bioinformatics M.Sc. degree at either the University of British Columbia or Simon Fraser University. Please note that if you are not accepted into this scholarship program, you must find your own supervisor from the mentor/faculty list. Once you have done this, please contact bioinformaticsprogram@bcgsc.ca. Applications for the September 2011 program will be accepted starting December 1, 2010. Do not send any materials before this date. The deadline for international applications is February 4, 2011. The deadline for Canadian and American applications is March 4, 2011 . An application form can be downloaded here . Please read the information about the program on this web site carefully. If you have any questions, please contact

The mRNA landscape at yeast translation initiation sites
Posted by Waleed Ghalwash in Oxford journals on October 22nd, 2010 Summary: Saccharomyces cerevisiae Trends in base composition and base-pairing probabilities suggest that efficient translation initiation and high protein expression are aided by reduced secondary structure upstream and downstream of the TIS. However, the downstream reduction is not observed for sets of TISs with nucleotide sequence contexts unfavorable for translation initiation, consistent with previous suggestions that secondary structure downstream of the ribosome can facilitate TIS recognition. Currently, all members of the UNL academic community have access to the standard services of the BCRF at no charge. The BCRF is supported in part by the Nebraska Informatics Center for the Life Sciences (NICLS). Major funding for the facility comes from the National Science Foundation EPSCoR and the Nebraska Research Initiative.

Bioinformatics Core Research Facility - University of Nebraska, Lincoln [Software] Job Queuing System We have been using PBS Pro for our job queuing system for several years. A change in academic licensing for this product has forced us to re-evaluate; and we have decided that with a viable free product available (Sun Grid Engine) we have to switch. In the next month we will transition from PBS Pro ... [read more] [Software] GCG/SeqWeb use Since September 2007 Accelrys is no longer supporting GCG/SeqWeb and updates to its databases. Although GCG/SeqWeb can still be used here at BCRF, it is with outdated public databases. Please consider moving to EMBOSS for your sequence analysis work.
