Summer Immunology and Virology Undergraduate Fellowship 2011: An Advanced Program in Science Research Education (SINAPSE)
Program Description
The Department of Immunology and Microbial Sciences at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) is pleased to announce and accept applications for its Summer Fellowship in Immunology and Virology for Undergraduates. This is an intensive summer research experience open to talented undergraduate students interested in Immunology and Virology. The program has been created to expose undergraduates to state of the art immunological and virological research, provide an introduction to the TSRI Graduate Program and motivate and prepare them for career opportunities in Immunology and Virology. The fellows are assigned to work with a mentor in a laboratory for the summer program. The program emphasizes the scientific process, bench experience, data analysis, and experimental design. In addition, fellows are expected to attend weekly classes that will provide an introduction to Immunology, Virology, and other topics of interest. TSRI is the nation's largest private, not-for-profit biomedical research institution with an international reputation in the areas of immunology, virology, molecular biology, chemistry, cell biology, autoimmune diseases, synthetic vaccine development, and the neurosciences. In addition to its longstanding commitment to the training of postdoctoral fellows, the Institute has a

Author Guidelines
Immunology publishes papers on fundamental aspects of immunology including: cellular immunology; innate immunity; molecular immunology; antigen presentation; lymphocyte migration; immunogenetics; imaging at the molecular, cellular or whole animal level; protein crystallography; plasmon resonance; in silico modeling; and, knockout and knock-in studies. Original articles describing mechanistic insights to the immune system are particularly welcome. The journal also publishes commissioned review articles on subjects of topical interest to immunologists. The editors are also prepared to consider unsolicited review suggestions in the form of submitted abstracts. Immunology is essential reading for workers in all areas of immunological research. Please note that excessively long manuscripts and unnecessary data will slow down the review process. Papers will be accepted for publication provided they meet these requirements and provided they have not been and will not be published elsewhere, in whole or in part.

Immunology is a broad branch of biomedical science that covers the study of all aspects of the immune system in all organisms . It deals with, among other things, the physiological functioning of the immune system in states of both health and disease; malfunctions of the immune system in immunological disorders ( autoimmune diseases hypersensitivities immune deficiency allograft rejection); the physical, chemical and physiological characteristics of the components of the immune system in vitro in situ , and in vivo . Immunology has various applications in several disciplines of science, and as such is further divided.
