In COBRA – THE SHELBY AMERICAN ORIGINAL ARCHIVES 1962 – 1965. Friedman calls Allen Grant's Shelby American Cobra with paint scheme design by George Lucas “the most beautiful Cobra race car of the whole bunch”. Friedman can be a master at understatement, as he goes on to write that “Lucas went on to fame directing and producing popular films”. Indeed. The Lucas paint just floors you. The driver, Allen Grant, had his good friend Lucas design it and it's light years different from other early sixties schemes – more of a Days of Thunder era yellow. The black rake striping with white piping and the black reverse roundels make the yellow scream in contrast – especially in 1/12 scale. The flashy color probably made it easy for the cars from second place on back to keep an eye on it. The color varies depending on the light, so I’ve included photographs in different environments. The markings are interesting with sponsor and car nickname displayed in a stylized Old English font. Grant was an amateur racer who first approached Ol’ Shel about being a driver and was instead offered the exalted position of welder. He rose through the ranks quickly but maintained his original dream of being behind the wheel. In 1963, Grant convinced California sports car dealer Coventry Motors, to sponsor him. The word “Executor” appears on the rear quarter panel and execute Grant did. He wanted to impress Shelby so he could get a full time ride and by winning the Santa Barbara Road Races in this car in September that year – a grueling multi race event – he got his wish.

Is Your Nonprofit Organization One of the Hidden Gems the Obama Administration is Searching for?
According to President Obama, the new administration is working hard to change the climate for the nonprofit sector, reduce troops in Iraq, and use taxpayer dollars for supplanting volunteer efforts. Through the Innovation Fund, President Obama and his team are determined to find the "hidden gems" - that is those nonprofit organizations that have a proven track record in providing proven solutions to our nation's issues by providing government grants. He wants to obtain strategic advice from grassroots organizations; learn how to scale-up government efforts; and partner in providing real-time solutions for the needy in OUR country.
To this end, the new administration will provide resources to help those special nonprofits chosen to reach their full potential and will in fact network with the nonprofit sector to achieve their goals.
The Recovery Act is no longer just a dream - it is a reality. By using GPRS and our staff to create your grant proposal and find government grants or other grant funding, we will help you demonstrate your capabilities so the government can find you...that hidden gem they are searching for in the nonprofit sector.
Give yourself time to manage and run your nonprofit organization and specialized programs and let GPRS handle your proposal work!

CRT has some life left in it yet Wednesday 27th October 2010
Every now and then I toy with the idea of joining the 21st Century and getting a new-fangled TFT monitor for my desktop but keep finding reasons why not to. I currently have a 19" flat-screen Mitsubishi Diamondtron CRT monitor - seemingly one of the best monitors ever to be produced. I don't like downgrading just for the joy of getting something newer (say like selling a MK5 Golf for a MK6, that would be silly).
I also don't have an unlimited budget which restricts the contenders. So what are my requirements? Games, shooters specifically. Second to that, probably photo editing. Something that my CRT can handle quite happily with no side-effects but are at complete polars for what TFTs can handle - it's one or the other folks. It seems my requirements are:
  • Capable of displaying a 75Hz rapidly changing image without ghosting
Does not suffer from inverse-ghosting from overdrive on the crystals
    No input lag

The colour gamut is handled by professional screens using IPS based panels although these suffer from a slow response time so fail on point two. TN panels are best for point two but suck at point one.

Below is a collection of information derived from published books, interviews with family members, and genealogical research by a number of descendants of the Thomas Grant family. It represents a little bit of genealogical history through four generations of Grants to me. If you have anything to add or change, please send me an e-mail message. According to information handed down by Talley Grant of Franklin, TX (date unknown), Thomas and two brothers came directly from Scotland. One brother apparently settled in Maine, one in Pennsylvania and the remaining brother moved to Ohio. According to the story, Thomas ended up in Kentucky, possibly as the result of being orphaned and indentured to a farmer to learn the farming trade. Another story circulating through the family is that the three brothers fled Scotland when England took over the lands and took everything the Scots owned, leaving them with only pieces of land to live on. Their traditions and clothing attire were considered treason by the British and the Scots could be thrown in prison for such displays. As a result of the oppression, many Scots fled their country for America. Because they were virtually poor at that point, they indentured themselves for seven years to other families to gain passage to America. Thomas and his brothers were believed to have been indentured. They may have arrived on the Carolina Coast and migrated west, however, most suggest that those coming from Scotland landed around the Upper East Coast. We know that he later moved to Tennessee and settled in Maury County.
