Home Library German Literature Companion Arnim, Elizabeth von (Sydney, New South Wales, 1866-1941, Charleston, South Carolina), née Mary Annette Beauchamp, married Henning, Graf von Arnim, a collateral descendent of Achim and Bettina von Arnim , in 1890. They lived in Berlin for five years before moving to Nassenheide, his family estate in Pomerania, which she immortalized in her most famous books, and where her children's tutors included E. M. Forster and Hugh Walpole. When forced to sell up in 1908, the Arnims moved to England. An admired literary figure, she spent her later years mainly in Switzerland and the USA. While living in Germany she published (under the pseudonym ‘Elizabeth’) a remarkable sequence of semi-autobiographical works describing the landscape and people with lyrical sensitivity, affectionate wit and a sharp eye for the subtleties of social behaviour. In most hacker-related contexts, they are also divided into lusers and power users. Both are terms of degradation, but the latter connotes a "know-it-all" attitude. See also End-user and Nomadic User. A user account allows one to authenticate to system services. It also generally provides one with the opportunity to be authorized to access them. However, authentication does not automatically imply authorization. Once the user has logged on, the operating system will often use an identifier such as an integer to refer to them, rather than their username. On Unix systems this is called the user identifier or user id. Computer systems are divided into two groups based on what kind of users they have: This article was originally based on material from the Free On-line Dictionary of Computing, which is licensed under the GFDL.
