Arthur Click image to enlarge Specifications Games Main Bob Bates (Challenge Inc.) Immortal Legends Standard It has been many years since King Uther has died, and his once-proud kingdom is in danger of coming apart at the seams. No one has been able to draw the legendary sword from the stone. No one has been able to unite the country against the invasion of the Saxons. The people grow weary of life without a High King, and they are ready to accept a usurper on the throne, even though they know he is not the rightful heir. In Arthur, you play the role of the young king who has grown up in ignorance of his heritage. The time has come for you to draw Excalibur from the stone and rise up to defend Britain. But before you can do so, you must prove to Merlin that you are ready to take up the burden of kingship. As you progress through the game, you must earn the wisdom, experience, and chivalry points that will demonstrate to Merlin that you are indeed ready to claim your birthright.

Arthur - The Quest for Excalibur
"Whoso pulleth out this sword of this stone
is rightwise king born of all England."
In the days before Camelot, when magic and evil rule England, a sword sheathed in stone appears in a quiet churchyard. Engraved upon it are the words which form your destiny. For you are Arthur, the son and true heir of the High King, Uther Pendragon. But there is more to asserting your claim than wresting free the sword. The sword in the stone disappears stolen by the evil King Lot. To win it back, you must develop the kingly qualities of wisdom, chivalry, and experience, qualities that will also prove you worthy of the throne. And you must do it all within three days, or Lot will usurp your legacy. You are assisted by Merlin the Enchanter, who grants you the power to transform yourself into a variety of animals. Now you can explore the kingdom as no one has before: from the sky, from rivers and lakes, from on and under the earth. How you use this power, and how you solve the myriad puzzles that confront you, will determine your success in your quest.

Vice President Arthur became the 21st President when James Garfield died in 1881. The granite monument, dedicated in 1903, is situated on a small plot of land presented to the State of Vermont by P.B.B. Northrop. At that time it was believed this was the location of the birthplace of Chester Arthur. In 1950 the State of Vermont purchased the land around the monument and the present building was recreated in 1953 using as a guide an old photograph of the house which stood on this site.

      Arthur Schopenhauer - Biography
Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) Schopenhauer published in 1818 Die Welt als Wille und Vorstellung, in four books, with an appendix containing a criticism of the Kantian philosophy (Eng. trans. by R. B. Haldane and J. Kemp, 1883).
Book One considers the world as idea. The idea is defined as an object of experience and science, and is dependent on the principle of sufficient reason. Book Two considers the world as the will, showing how the will manifests itself in the world. Book Three considers the Platonic Idea, which is the idea independent of the principle of sufficient reason. Book Four considers the ethical implications of the affirmation and denial of the will to life. Schopenhauer's metaphysics, as stated in The World as Will and Representation is structured through a small set of dichotomous divisions. Schopenhauer prided himself on the simplicity of this in comparison to Kant, whose system he compared to a Gothic cathedral. The basic distinction in Schopenhauer's metaphysics is between representation and the thing-in-itself. The thing-in-itself turns out to be will. The will is introduced in Book II, where its manifestations in nature are also examined. Book IV is also about the denial of will, self, and self-interest, producing for Schopenhauer a theory both of morality and of holiness, the former by which self-interest is curtailed for the sake of others, the latter by which all will-to-live ceases. Schopenhauer's greatest eloquence about the evils, sufferings, and futility of life, and its redemption through self-denial, occur there.

We are presently researching the following surnames from Finland on the Riiska side of the family: Tohni, Sonninmaki, Suutala, and Pennala. Many of these people changed their surnames as they moved from place to place and are very hard to track down.
The McArthur's are all from the northern New York area back to about 1820. Alexander McArthur was born in Buffalo in 1820 and died in Plattsburgh, Ny. We think his father's name was Donald and his mother's maiden name was Mary Woodward.
Any information on these people is most welcome. We will be happy to answer anyone's inquiry about any of the names on our family tree.

100. Arthur Honegger Was A Composer Born In Le Havre On March 10, 1892
Brief biography with analysis of the cantata.
http://www.easternx.com/honegger.htm
The Library Resource Page for this project Arthur Honegger A) Arthur Honegger was a composer born in Le Havre on March 10, 1892. While still at a young age, he was sent to the Zurich Conservatory by his father. While at the conservatory he studied violin, conducting, and harmony under Freidrich Hegan, who was, among his many talents, a very distinguished musician. With Honegger under his instruction, Hegan immediately recognized the massive potential of the young man. After spending a few years in Switzerland from1914-1915, Honegger began the composition of his final series of orchestral works. Along with being a noted lecturer, conductor, and accompanist, he was also a member of Les Six which was a group of composers who were against Romantic music. Three years before his death in 1955, Honegger finished The Christmas Cantata in 1952. C) Neo-classicism is a 20 th century style of composing brought by the reintroduction of balanced forms and clearly perceived thematic processes of earlier styles to replace the over-exaggerated gesticulation and absence of form of the late Romanticism. A neo-classicist is prone to reject the structural tonal system found in true classical music and instead use expanded tonality, modality, or atonality. Just the term "neo" itself implies a deviation from the traits of true classical music. The whole idea of neo-classicism was a direct result of anti-romanticism in an attempt to refine and control expressionism. Neo-Classicism is less known for its reinstitution of the technique of composers like Mozart and Haydn, but known more-so for its power in the manipulation of previous elements. The three schools of neo-classicism are those of Stravinsky, Shoenberg, and Hindemith.
