From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search For the jurist, see Mariano Azuela Güitrón Mariano Azuela Mariano Azuela González (January 1, 1873 in Lagos de Moreno Jalisco – March 1, 1952 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican author and physician, best known for his fictional stories of the Mexican Revolution of 1910. He wrote novels, works for theatre and literary criticism. Azuela wrote many pieces including the newspaper piece "Impressions of a Student" in 1896, the novel Andrés Pérez, maderista in 1911, and Los de abajo , (or The Underdogs ), in 1915. During his days in the Mexican Revolution , Azuela wrote about the war and its impact on Mexico . He served under president Francisco I. Madero as chief of political affairs in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco - his home town. After Madero's death, he joined the military forces of Julián Medina, a follower of Pancho Villa , where he served as a field doctor. He later was forced for a time to emigrate to El Paso, Texas . There he wrote Los de abajo , a first-hand description of combat during the Mexican revolution, based on his experiences in the field. In 1917 he moved to

The son of a physician, Abe grew up in Manchuria, and graduated from medical school in Tokyo in 1948, but never practiced medicine. Writing in a variety of genres, including poetry, drama, and fiction, he was noted for his surrealistic, Kafkaesque style; and was popular not only in Japan, but in the West. (b. Jan . 1, 1873, Lagos de Moreno, Mex.d. March 1, 1952, Mexico City), writer whose 20 novels chronicle almost every aspect of the Mexican revolution. He received an M.D. degree in Guadalajara in 1899 and practiced medicine, first in his native town and after 1916 in Mexico City. His best-known work, Los de abajo The Under Dogs ), depicting the horrors of the revolution, was written at the campfire during forced marches while he served as army doctor with Pancho Villa, in 1915. Forced to flee across the border to El Paso, Texas, he first published the novel as a newspaper serial (October-December 1915). It received little notice until it was "discovered" in 1924. It widely influenced other Mexican novelists of social protest and was translated into several languages. Returning from Texas to Mexico City in 1916, Azuela, disillusioned with the revolutionary struggle, wrote novels critical of the new regime: Las moscas (1918) and Los caciques (1917; together translated as
