Ludwig Van Beethoven Biography
Ludwig Van Beethoven is considered to be one of the best classical composers in history. Ludwig Van Beethoven is known for creating his huge symphonies. He created 9 symphonies, not as prolific as Mozart or Haydn, but the quality of these symphonies are beyond belief.
One of Beethoven's most famous symphony is symphony number 9. This symphony, created by Ludwig Van Beethoven is superior, and contains the famous Ode To Joy choral theme as the last movement, that everyone has heard. The first movement of symphony number 9 is absolutely stunning. The theme of this symphony composed by Ludwig Van Beethoven is a wonderful theme, and starts out slow and mysterious. Beethoven blends minor and major very well, making the complete movement very memorable. The next movement is a scherzo, composed in 3/4 time. Ludwig Van Beethoven wanted this movement to sound fast, and starts the piece off with a loud bang of the timpani. He starts the theme
with an intrument, has other instruments come into play a second or two later than the first, and this creates a fugue like scherzo, which in my opinion is probably the best scherzo symphony I have ever heard. Ludwig Van Beethoven then has all of the instruments playing the theme, which creates a loud symphony, which then resolves into the seconrdary theme. Finally, the 3rd movement of Ludwig Van Beethoven is the Ode To Joy Choral which is very famous and played all over the place. Ludwig Van Beethoven decided to have human voices in this piece. This was

His exact birthdate is not known but is probably December 15 or December 16. Beethoven's work bridged the classical and romantic periods. His early work was heavily influenced by Mozart and Haydn. Gradually his music became more intense and romantic. Symphonies 5 through 9 represent the epitomy of early Romantic music. His late string quartets are remarkable and daring. He was a master composer of Romantic music in many forms. The links below point to complete biographies and photographs. General Bibliography: Blume, Friedrich, with Norton, M. D. The Diabelli Variations This opus, that Alfred Brendel has described as, "The greatest of all piano works," might justifiably be considered an afterthought of Beethoven's. According to most accounts, in 1819 Anton Diabelli, a composer and prominent music publisher, sent a copy of a waltz theme he had just written to 50 composers, requesting that each of them write one variation on the theme for a composite set. He intended to publish this set and to use the profits from sales to benefit orphans and widows of the Napoleonic Wars, but he probably also wanted to promote his new publishing firm. Beethoven was one of the recipients of the theme, but he is said to have refused to participate in the project, referring to the waltz as a "cobbler's patch," or, by some accounts, "trash." The composite set was indeed published, but without a contribution from Beethoven. Nevertheless, the theme must have eventually grabbed his attention, because by 1820, in a letter to one Peter Joseph Simrock, of the Bonn publishing house, Beethoven refers to his work on the variations as, "grand variations on a German waltz." Martin Cooper, in his book entitled

Diabelli Variations
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Theme of the Variations - Diabelli's Waltz The 33 Variations on a waltz by Anton Diabelli , Op. 120, commonly known as the Diabelli Variations , is a set of variations for the piano written between 1819 and 1823 by Ludwig van Beethoven on a waltz composed by Anton Diabelli . One of the supreme compositions for the piano, it often shares the highest honours with Bach 's Goldberg Variations Music writer Donald Francis Tovey called it "the greatest set of variations ever written." Pianist Alfred Brendel has described it as "the greatest of all piano works." It also comprises, in the words of Hans von Bülow , "a microcosm of Beethoven's art." citation needed In Beethoven: The Last Decade 1817 - 1827 , Martin Cooper writes, "The variety of treatment is almost without parallel, so that the work represents a book of advanced studies in Beethoven's manner of expression and his use of the keyboard, as well as a monumental work in its own right." In his Structural Functions of Harmony Arnold Schoenberg writes that the Diabelli Variations "in respect of its harmony, deserves to be called the most adventurous work by Beethoven."

Born on December 17, 1770 in Bonn, Germany
Died on March 26, 1827 in Vienna, Austria
From a very young age, Ludwig van Beethoven was taught piano and violin. He acquired orchestral player skills as a violist in the orchestra of the court in Bonn, his hometown. He settled in Vienna in 1792. Three years prior to his installation in the Austrian capital, he had briefly met Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). Shortly after his arrival, Beethoven became one of Franz Joseph Haydn's (1732-1809) pupil. Even though a deep mutual professional respect was always tangible, the teacher/student relationship was disappointing.
Beethoven became rapidly a respected musician on the Viennese scene. In 1801 he first mentioned to a friend that he was suffering of hear loss. It is around that period that he started pulling out from social life. After his death, the 1802

He was a musical genius in every sense of the word, and the Diabelli Variations are a perfect example of this. In these works Beethoven takes an unremarkable, mechanical, "cobbler's patch" (Beethoven's own words) of a waltz and turned it into a remarkable and revolutionary musical masterpiece. The Diabelli Variations are made up of 33 separate and completely different variations all based on Anton Diabelli's original waltz. "No other work by Beethoven is so rich in allusion, humor, and parody." (Kinderman) Beethoven was born in Germany and baptized on December 17, 1770. He only attended school through the elementary levels and his first music teacher was his father, who taught him the piano and violin. Beethoven made his first public appearance in March of 1778 at the tender age of eight. His mother died of tuberculosis in 1787 and his father in 1792 - just a few months after Beethoven had moved to Vienna. Beethoven studied under Haydn for a short time while he was in Vienna - but the two composers did not like each other and this arrangement did not last long.

I opened it speculatively to take a glance, with the idea of perhaps reading it, perhaps even reviewing it. The first passage my eye fell upon, at random, was the following: In Beethoven's procedures the most profound features of Hegelian philosophy will be discerned, such as the twofold position of 'mind' in the Phenomenology as both subject and object. As the latter it is merely 'observed' in its movement; as the former, through observing, it brings the movement about. Something very similar can be seen in Beethoven's most authentic developments, as in the Appassionata and in the Ninth Symphony and probably in the Waldstein Sonata as well. The theme of the development is mind, that is, the recognition of self in the other. The 'other', the theme, the inspired idea, is, to begin with, left to itself in these developments and observed; it moves
