languages." His philosophy can be reflected in today's society and it has both
negative and positive aspects.

Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, was founded in 1911 and was one of the first discipline-specific honor societies. Its membership is limited to the top 20 percent of those entering the field of education Kappa Delta Pi claims over 600 chapters across North America and 45,000 total members. James Bryant Conant ) was a chemist , President of Harvard University , Ambassador, an educator and public servant . He was born in Dorchester Massachusetts in 1893 and graduated with bachelor and doctoral degrees in chemistry from Harvard University in and respectively, studying both physical and organic chemistry. Conant taught chemistry at Harvard, and performmed important research in the field of Physical Organic Chemistry. In , he accepted an appointment as the President of Harvard University, which he continued as until , although between and , Conant served as chairman of the National Defense Research Committee. He served as US High Commissioner to Germany and Ambassador to Germany from to While President of Harvard he oversaw a process of transformation that saw Harvard become America's preeminent university. He introduced significant changes in the way students were admitted, and faculty were hired, and created the general education program, and the Harvard Case Histories on Experimental Science. He was active throughout his career on issues of education, not just for Harvard, but for the nation, and later, internationally. Conant died in Hanover New Hampshire in 1978.

James Bryant Conant Biography
(born March 26, 1893, Dorchester, Mass., U.S.—died Feb. 11, 1978, Hanover, N.H.) U.S. educator and scientist, president of Harvard University (1933–53). Conant received a Ph.D. (1916) from Harvard and taught chemistry there until he was elected its president in 1933. He led the university to broaden the social and geographic makeup of its student body. During World War II he was a central figure in organizing American science, including the development of the atomic bomb. In 1953 he was appointed U.S. high commissioner for West Germany, and in 1955 he was appointed ambassador.
