It is not widely known that, during World War I, Lawson was a member of the first U.S. Army camouflage unit (called the American Camouflage Corps), in connection with which he served in France with other artists, such as Barry Faulkner Sherry Edmundson Fry William Twigg-Smith and Kerr Eby (Behrens 2009). In his autobiography, Faulkner recalls that Lawson had a remarkable "sense of fantasy and humor", which made him especially valuable when the camoufleurs put on musical shows for the children of the French women who worked with them on camouflage (Faulkner 1957).

Fiction The fast-moving world of finance has captured the imagination of generations of authors and readers alike. Perhaps the best evidence for this phenomenon is the wealth of fictional works with financial themes that have permeated the literary market over the years. Our exhibit includes novels about financial dealings in everything from Coffee to Lard and from gold to coal. Only a few of the authors represented here may be recognized by today's reader, but these authors and their works nevertheless did as much to shape the popular opinion of Wall Street as did history itself.

A Short History of the Dime Novel
It should be noted that, to avoid confusion, one usually speaks of the publishers of dime novels more often than one speaks of the authors. This is because authorship is often uncertain. Multiple authors using a single pseudonym wrote many of the titles in a series. Alternately, a single author might also employ different names for different titles or series. The Walter F.
