    Cobb was the second of four children born to Kentucky natives in Paducah, Kentucky . His grandfather Reuben Saunders, M.D., is credited with discovering in 1873 that hypodermic use of morphine atropine halted cholera . Cobb was raised in Paducah, where the events and people of his childhood became the basis for much of his later works citation needed Cobb was educated in public and private elementary schools and then entered William A. Cade's Academy intending to pursue a law career. When he was 16, his grandfather died and his father became an alcoholic. Forced to quit school and find work, he began his writing career.

Cobb At 19 Cobb became managing editor of the Paducah Daily News and in 1904 went to New York City , where he became a staff writer for the Evening World and Sunday World short stories , of which he wrote more than 300. Back Home (1912) and Old Judge Priest (1916). He wrote more than 60 books and thousands of columns for journals and travelled throughout the country as a lecturer and after-dinner speaker. He also wrote plays and, with the filming of the Judge Priest stories, he went to California where he wrote scenarios and acted in motion pictures.

COBB, Irvin S. From Place to Place. New York: George H. Doran and Co. 1920. First Edition. Collection of nine short stories by Cobb. A scarce early title in dj and one of only four Bleiler titles by Cobb. The author was Kentucky born but moved to New York City for a job with the Evening Sun. During the First World War Cobb represented the Saturday Evening Post as a war correspondent and received the Chevalier Legion of Honor from the French government at the conclusion of the war. NF copy with some discoloration to cloth at rear spine edge and foredge, in VG plus dj with chipping at lower spine end, few small nicks to top spine end, some wear to rear flap fold.
