"Don't Panic" - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "I was hitchhiking around Europe in 1971, when I was 18, with this copy of A Hitchhiker's Guide to Europe. At one point I found myself lying in the middle of a field, a little bit drunk, when it occurred to me that somebody should write a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It didn't occur to me that it might actually be me years later." - Douglas Adams So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish

Bibliography

So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish Looking up into the night sky, Douglas Adams once remarked to himself that someone should write a hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. He says that at the time, he didn't consider himself among the candidates.
Good thing for all of us that that idea came to him sometime later.
The Hitchhiker's Guide and the other books in "an increasingly misnamed trilogy" are some of the best loved books in science fiction. As well as best loved radio drama and computer game. Douglas Adams had one of those wonderfully inventive minds that could find the absurd in the mundane, clothe it in the bizarre and present it as at once amusing and revealing.

"The Greatest Canadian"
Along with JS Woodsworth, first CCF Leader, Tommy Douglas stands as one of the most important heroes of our movement. Douglas was the first socialist leader of a government on this continent. He was the first leader of the federal NDP. He was the father of medicare in Canada. It is hard to imagine a figure more important to the development of the NDP and to socialism in Canada. History has been kind to Tommy Douglas, though he never became Prime Minister, and he is as highly regarded by the general public now as ever before. Tommy Douglas was a little man with a big heart. In his 44 years as an elected representative, his loving work on behalf of the individual men and women of Canada changed forever the nature of our society. Tommy Douglas fought for Canadians. His achievements are indeed legendary.

Positive Atheism
Douglas Adams (1952-2001) 'Chief Fantasist' Continue with Alphabetically Sequenced Quotations
Douglas Adams, from an interview with American Atheists; quoted from Warren Allen Smith, editor, Celebrities in Hell (2002); excerpted by Positive Atheism Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-eight million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.
Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Now it is such a bizarrely improbably coincidence that anything so mindbogglingly useful [the Babel fish] could have evolved by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof of the non -existence of God.
The argument goes something like this: "I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing."

We define a group of relative differential K -characters associated with a smooth map between two smooth compact manifolds. We show that this group fits into a short exact sequence as in the non-relative case. Some secondary geometric invariants are expressed in this theory.
