Central Regional Branch
The Central Regional Branch provides archival and records management services to local government agencies throughout Benton, Chelan, Douglas, Franklin, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, Okanogan, and Yakima counties. Central Region Collections Overview Local government records include those from county offices such as the Auditor, the Clerk, the Treasurer, the Board of Commissioners, and from municipalities, school districts, and other service districts. Only a small percentage of the records created by these offices are transferred to the State Archives. They are selected for their value as legal and historical evidence of policy development, implementation, and effect. The transfer of records to the State Archives is an ongoing process. Some historical records remain with their originating office pending future transfer to the Archives. Major subject areas of the records in custody include:
  • Genealogy Land use/property Legal system Education
Genealogy - Genealogical records include birth and death records from the turn of the nineteenth century, marriage records ca.1867-1997, naturalization records, probate records, and a host of additional records such as pre-statehood county censuses, and schoolchildren censuses ca.1890-ca.1932. Completeness of these records in the Archives' holdings varies from county to county, but the Archives staff can assist researchers in determining the appropriate location of the information, if it exists. Contact the Central Regional Branch.

serving the town of Douglas, MA Hey, where's the site? The DouglasMA.com web site is undergoing renovations, and will relaunch mid-March, 2006. I'm hoping to make the new site a "town center" on the internet with a wide range of information. Want a web page for your organization? If you are a member of any local organization that would like free space on the new site, please let me know. I'll give just about any group a web page and bulletin board, and will show you how to update the page yourself. Post information about events, meetings, or whatever you'd like. Free, no catch, and it's easy. Just send me an email and I'll let you know when it's ready to go. For-profit businesses are excluded, although I'm available for business web site development for those interested. All official town committees and departments will soon have their own space on the official town site, www.DouglasMA.org This site is not an official government-sponsored site. Owenstown Update (31/8/09) I have received the latest press release from the Owenstown developers. They say that over 200 people have already registered an interest in living in Owenstown, quite a remarkable interest considering details of the project were released only 3 days ago! Stuart Crawford, one of the trustees of the Hometown Foundation had this to say "We’ve had people from all over the country registering an interest in buying or renting a home and they’re obviously just as enthusiastic about this as we are. We’ve also had significant interest from the commercial sector, both in supplying the new town and in locating their business there". Several hundred people have also confirmed they intend to visit the Owenstown exhibition at New Lanark next Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday (details of which can be found in news below). If you would like to register your interest in living in Owenstown please go to the Owenstown website for details. D.V.B. Launch (27/8/09) If you havent heard about Facebook then "where have you been"? I have been playing around with a social network creation tool online and have created the DVB (Douglas Valley Book). Basically its just like Facebook and other Social Networks except its specifically for the Douglas Valley. Try it out and see what you think.

Your characters have to remain innocent of what your picture is after.
Douglas Sirk was one of the 20th century cinema's great ironists. And perhaps the most distinctive characteristic of the films he made in Europe and America is the way they are able to create a gulf between how his characters see themselves and our view of them.
Schlussakkord La Habanera There's Always Tomorrow (1955) and Imitation of Life Has Anybody Seen My Gal? Meet Me at the Fair (1952) and Take Me to Town Lured Taza, Son of Cochise (1953, shot in 3-D) and Captain Lightfoot
But Sirk adds another layer to the shape of the films and to his characters' struggles within them. All around, but beyond the reach of their vision, are forces which define the parameters of their lives. These are evident at the most basic level, in the way that the plots almost always hinge on problems for which the only solution becomes a convenient miracle, a deus ex machina Faust There's also an air of fatalism in the way that social customs and the material world acquire lives of their own in Sirk's stories, stifling the characters' sense of what's possible and limiting their options.
