1. Author
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born at May 22, 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He received a bachelor of medicine degree in 1881 from the University of Edinburgh, and was awarded his medical degree in 1885. Conan Doyle began writing in 1879 in an attemp to pay for his education. His books “ A study in scarlet (1887)”, “Micah Clarke (1888)” and “The sign of four (1890)” made him so famous that he decided to abandon his medical career and become a writer. Conan Doyle is remembered for his creation of the detective Sherlock Holmes and his assistant Dr. Watson. In frustration of Holmes’ popularity, Doyle killed him of in “The final problem”, hoping to provide more time to his other works. The public was not pleased with that, so Conan resurrected Sherlock Holmes.
In the later years of his life, he became more and more interested in the spiritualism and wrote a book about it. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle died on July 7, 1930

66. Peter Cushing And Sherlock Holmes - An Overview
An overview of Peter Cushing as Sherlock Holmes by Charles Prepolec.

x
By Charles Prepolec Peter Cushing and Sherlock Holmes: An Overview Sherlock Holmes has been portrayed on screen by numerous performers. The range is rather varied and contains both the hopelessly miscast and the memorable. Peter Cushing falls in with the latter group. Never before or since, has Holmes been portrayed by a more gentle or respected actor. Known in the industry for his remarkable ability with props and his professionalism in the worst of circumstances, Peter Cushing was an actor's actor. In his personal life he was, by all accounts, a very private man and devoted husband to his beloved wife Helen. Amongst his hobbies was the creation of minature theatrical sets, as well as the collecting of model soldiers, and of course he had a deep love of books. I like to think that Conan Doyle would have embraced Peter Cushing as something of a kindred spirit!
In Sherlockian film sequence, Cushing follows on the heels of Rathbone, whereas in the medium that is television he follows Douglas Wilmer. In both places he does rather well. In neither case is he the perfect Holmes, but one we can enjoy and appreciate nonetheless. His amazing professionalism has always made Cushing a joy to behold in any of his varied roles. Although indelibly linked with Hammer Films in the sixties, Peter Cushing appeared in a total of 91 films and made numerous television appearances.

Description
Being an account of another adventure of Prof. George E. Challenger, Lord John Roxton, Prof. Summerlee, and Mr. E. D. Malone, the discoverers of The Lost World. '...bobtail of insignificant satellites, we float under the same daily conditions towards some unknown end, some squalid catastrophe which will overwhelm us at the ultimate confines of space, where we are swept over an etheric Niagara or dashed upon some unthinkable Labrador. I see no room here for the shallow and ignorant optimism of your correspondent, Mr. James Wilson MacPhail, but many reasons why we should watch with a very close and interested attention every indication of change in those cosmic surroundings upon which our own ultimate fate may depend." "Man, he'd have made a grand meenister," said McArdle. "It just booms like an organ. Let's get doun to what it is that's troubling him."

Un articolo di Dario Cillo su Arthur Conan Doyle.

Doyle vs. Holmes

Arthur Conan Doyle was born at Picardy Place, Edinburgh, as the son of Charles Altamont Doyle, a civil servant in the Edinburgh Office of Works, and Mary (Foley) Doyle. Both of Doyle's parents were Roman Catholics. To increase his income Charles Altamont painted, made book illustrations, and also worked as a sketch artist on criminal trials. Not long after arriving Edinburgh he started to drink, he suffered from epilepsy and was eventually institutionalized. Doyle's mother was interested in literature, and she encouraged his son to take to books. More ...
