Morgan Freeman Patrick Stoner: I heard that you don't like to see yourself on screen. How far does that go? You don't see dailies? You don't see the final cut? What? Morgan Freeman: If I didn't go to see the final cut, the director would say, "What's the matter, you're not proud of what we did?" So, I HAVE to see the final cut, but I don't like to, and no I won't go to the dailies or watch the videotapes. I don't want to see myself. Stoner: Why is that? Freeman: Well, you have to understand how I go about acting and exactly what acting is. If you're playing somebody who is not you, then you can imagine that you are that person. You can feel like he feels, move like he moves, look like he looks in your own mind. Stoner: Be in the moment ... Freeman: Be in the moment, right. But, if you catch even a glimpse of yourself doing the role, then all you see is YOU not him and then you're just yourself. So, I avoid seeing myself while I'm working on role so I won't see "me." Stoner: It seems like you are reducing what you do in your roles to the minimum.

Morgan Freeman Under Suspicion Interviewed by James Mottram How did "Under Suspicion" come about? Gene and I said when we were doing "Unforgiven" that we must find a project to do together. He had this project with him, which he been carting round for 12 years. I told him "Let's do it." He said, "Well, I'm gonna have to leave it in your hands. I have been trying to get it done for years and failed!" So my production company produced it. The film is a remake of Claude Miller's 1981 film "Garde à Vue". Had you seen it? I had forgotten that I'd already seen that version, but I was sitting and watching it with the idea of Gene and I doing it. I was very excited, because what I thought was that I was watching a play. Primarily, these actors are in a stage setting that has nothing else to distract them. Just the human integration, and that's very exciting. Normally, if you're doing a film with some special effects, you shoot very short segments. You very seldom have to learn a page of dialogue. But with "Under Suspicion" we could do an entire scene in one take. An actors talent, if they have any at all, is for memory. I can't remember names, but I can look at a page of dialogue and do it.
