The Media Objects of TAP
Dr Philippe Martin
This file contains representations of the media objects represented in the knowledge base (KB) of TAP on June 1st 2002. More precisely, these representations are categories and statements specializing or using the concept type MediaObject. I have used subtypeOf links to connect the TAP upper categories to categories of the KB of WebKB-2 (see the hyperlinked categories below). Reminders: (i) the part of a category identifier before the '#' character is the identifier of its creator (source or user); (ii) my user identifier is "pm"; (iii) by convention, the creator identifier is omited (nothing before the '#') for categories coming from WordNet 1.7; (iv) each statement, e.g. each link between categories, also have a creator (it is most often indicated within parenthesis after the link or the graph). The FT notation is used for representing links between categories (reminder: the characters ' ', '^' and ':' respectively represent the links subtypeOf subtype instanceOf instance ). The

So he started out by posting text copies of such classics as the United States Declaration of Independence , the Bible , and the works of Homer Shakespeare , and Mark Twain , and that was the beginning of Project Gutenberg.

Michael Stern Hart Hart's father was an accountant and his mother, a former cryptanalyst during World War II, was a business manager at a retail store. In 1958, they relocated to Urbana, Illinois, and became college professors instead, in Shakespearean studies and mathematics education, respectively. Hart stayed in the area to attend the University of Illinois, completing an independent-study program focused on human-machine interfaces in just two years to receive his bachelor's degree. During his time there, the University of Illinois computer center gave him an account on its system Although the focus of computer use tended to be data processing, Hart was aware that it was connected to a network, part of what would become the Internet, and chose to use his computer time for information distribution. Hart related that after his account was created on July 4, 1971, he was trying to think of what to do with it, and seized upon a copy of the United States Declaration of Independence, which he had been given at a grocery store on his way home from watching fireworks that evening. He typed the text in on a teletype machine, but could not e-mail it because this might crash the system, so to be read it had to be downloaded individually.
