POET, PLAYWRIGHT, CRITIC (GERMANY) BORN 26 Apr 1863, Rastenburg, Ostpreussen (now: Ketrzyn, Poland) - DIED 26 Oct 1929, Berlin: Wilmersdorf
REAL NAME Holmsen, Bjarne Peter
GRAVE LOCATION Berlin: Friedhof Heerstrasse , Trahkener Allee 1, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf (Feld 3-B-27/28)
Founder of German naturalism and influencial critic. He was the son of a phamacologist and moved to Berlin with his family in 1875. From 1881 onwards he worked as a journalist and a writer.
In Berlin he met the young Gerhard Hauptmann and in 1883 he published his first poems in "Klinginsherz!". In 1886 he published a series of poems under the title "Phantasus". He became friends with the writer Johannes Schlaf and both tried to reproduce reality in literature, sometimes alone, sometimes together.
In 1893 he married Emilie Wittenberg. They had three sons. In 1899 he published "Revolution der Lyrik". Around 1900 he quarreled with Schlaf about who had done what in their joint projects.
In 1924 a complete edition of "Phantasus" was published in three volumes and in 1926 he became a member of the poetry section of the Prussian Academy of Arts. He was also a candidate for the Nobel Prize, but he never received it. In 1926 he divorced Emilie and married Anita Gewelke. He died three years later.

He started, not very successfully, as a journalist, but became one of the foremost supporters of the Naturalistic movement (see Naturalismus ). A member of the club Durch , he also edited the journal Freie BĂĽhne (see Freie BĂĽhne, Verein ). His early collections of poetry, Klinginsherz (1883) and Deutsche Weisen (in collaboration with O. Jerschke , 1884), gained him some recognition, but his first real success came with the poetry of Das Buch der Zeit (1885). In 1888 began his friendship and collaboration with J. Schlaf . In the following year they published their joint work Papa Hamlet , described as Drei Skizzen , under the pseudonym Bjarne P. Holmsen, convinced that Norwegian authorship would attract instant attention. The true authors were soon discovered and they subsequently published under their own names. Die Familie Selicke (1890), another landmark of the Naturalistic movement, was performed by the Freie BĂĽhne, and the collection

Abstract
Some qualitative attempts to the elucidation of the melting transition is solids are presented. The screening of the long range elastic interactions in the liquid phase is considered to originate from the presence of freely mobile infinitely extended dislocation loops. In contrast to other similar theories it is, however, assumed that cooperative diffusive motion (or ``convective'' motion) plays an equally important role in releasing any trapped in dislocation configurations which may lead to immobility of the system. The apparent universal nature of the discontinuity of the melting transition is studied on the basis of these concepts via possible nucleation mechanisms. The technical means used to treat dislocation configurations are combinatorics and the path integral formalism. The conclusion reached are that the universal nature of the discontinuity of the melting transition is a consequence of the strongly coupled dynamics of dislocations and cooperative diffusive motion. To Professor Ulrich Dehlinger on the occasion of his eightieth birthday.
