He wrote frequently for various periodicals and has published volumes on a variety of subjects. He has made prose translations of Greek classics, and has written several works on comparative mythology and religion. Letters to Dead Authors and Letters on Literature are interesting writings. Lang has produced a number of volumes of poetry. Ballads and Lyrics of Old France, Ballads in Blue China, Rhymes a la Mode, and Ballads of Books are among them. Perhaps Lang is as well known for his fairy tales as for his more ambitious writings. He has published The Blue Fairy Book, The Red Fairy Book, The Pink Fairy Book, The Yellow Fairy Book, and The Green Fairy Book.

Andrew Lang (1844-1912) , Scottish historian, translator, journalist, lecturer, biographer, anthropologist, poet, and author. An avid folklorist, Lang's Fairy Book series contain dozens of fairy tales, myths, fables, legends, and nursery rhymes including "Little Red Riding Hood", "Story of Wali Dad the Simple-Hearted", "The Story of Three Bears", "The Goblin Pony", "The Story of a Very Bad Boy", "The Groac'h of the Isle of Lok", "The Ugly Duckling", "The Snow Queen", "The Norka", "Rapunzel", "Schippeitaro", and "The Emperor's New Clothes". Lang often collaborated with his wife Leonore Blanche Alleyne in adapting and translating the stories, originating from numerous countries including Africa, China, The Netherlands, England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lapland, North America, Norway, Romania, Russia, and Scotland. Andrew Lang
Andrew Lang was born in Selkirk, Scotland on March 31st, 1844. He was educated at Selkirk Grammar School, Edinburgh Academy, both St. Andrews and Glasgow Universities, and Balliol College, Oxford. He graduated from Balliol in 1868 and became a Fellow of Merton College until 1874. Lang's first publication was The Ballads and Lyrics of Old France (1872). Other volumes of verse include Ballades in Blue China Ballads and Verses Vain Rhymes à la Mode Grass of Parnassus Ban and Arrière Ban (1894), and New Collected Rhymes The windy lights of Autumn flare;
I watch the moonlit sails go by;
I marvel how men toil and fare,
The weary business that they play!
Their voyaging is vanity,
And fairy gold is all their gain,
And all the winds of winter cry,
'My Love returns no more again.'"
