He is also known for his fiction, especially The Screwtape Letters The Chronicles of Narnia and The Space Trilogy Lewis was a close friend of J. R. R. Tolkien , and both authors were leading figures in the English faculty at Oxford University and in the informal Oxford literary group known as the " Inklings ". According to his memoir Surprised by Joy , Lewis had been baptised in the Church of Ireland at birth, but fell away from his faith during his adolescence. Owing to the influence of Tolkien and other friends, at the age of 32 Lewis returned to Christianity, becoming "a very ordinary layman of the

Lewis, C.S.
British, 1898–1963
C.S.Lewis was the author of dozens of books in many different genres—literary criticism, children’s stories, adult fantasies and novels, poetry, Christian apologetics (as allegory, autobiography, and broadcast). Probably best known as the creator of Narnia, a series of children’s fantasy books, he is also one of the abler writers of the essay in the 20th century. Moreover, the distinctive Lewis style is consistent in occasional talks, apologetics, and literary criticism so that his work stands out among others’ academic efforts.
Such crisp judgment is typical of Lewis, whose conviction about the rightness of his own point of view annoys many—as does Chesterton’s. The two also share a delight in polemical argument, classical training, an extraordinary range of reading, and a relish of the good life, especially male company and friendship, and of many particularities of sense experience described with pleasure.
The Four Loves (1960) originated as radio talks in America. This late effort includes six chapters: “Introduction,” “Likings and Loves for the Sub-Human,” “Affection,” “Friendship,” “Eros,” “Charity.” As always there are clear definitions, often setting one view against another, and vivid parables; there is also a greater intensity of personal feeling and understanding, reflecting Lewis’ late, brief marriage. The second chapter includes a long logical, systematic, and balanced consideration which could be considered a separate essay. As always, Lewis combines relaxed conversation with a careful progression of points to reach a conclusion stated with great conviction, having been presented with countless ordinary details and many references to literature and theology, and to Western culture.

LEWIS Surname DNA Project
The LEWIS Surname DNA Project was created to develop a collection of various Lewis family groups who descend from the same male Lewis ancestor. DNA analysis provides a tool for identifying participants who share a common male ancestor; and, when used in unison with documented Lewis pedigrees, can also aid in establishing links between Lewis groups who previously were thought to be unrelated. Because many Lewis surname researchers have exhausted traditional genealogy research methods without identifying their elusive Lewis ancestor, this project combines genetics and genealogy in an effort to break through the proverbial "brick wall". Much useful information on the application of DNA analysis to genealogy research can be found through the DNA Resources page.
PARTICIPATION: Since males are the exclusive carriers of the Y-chromosome, which passes down through the generations to the common ancestor's lineal male descendants, only males with the Lewis surname will be tested for this project. However, a female also can benefit from the DNA technology by having a brother, father, uncle, grandfather, nephew or cousin with the Lewis surname participate in the Lewis DNA Project. FTDNA has given the LEWIS project a discounted price of $99.00 for a Y-DNA12 test, $124. for 25 markers or $148.00 for a Y-DNA37 test. If the 12-marker test is chosen, it can always be upgraded later to the Y-DNA37 test for $99 to identify the additional 25 markers. However, it is highly recommended that you choose at least 25 markers to start with. The Y-DNA37 and DNA67 tests are particularly useful in genealogy research since this knowledge can greatly reduce the number of possible generations between the participants and their Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA). We recommend the Y-DNA37 test because matching results with this test offer a significantly greater probability that the MRCA lived at a time when the Lewis surname was in use and paper documentation existed.

Al Lewis Al Lewis was born on April 30, 1910, in Brooklyn, New York, to parents of Polish and German descent. Lewis attended Thomas Jefferson High School. Not quite sure what he wanted to do with his life, he tried a Number of professions including salesman, waiter, owner of a poolroom, and store detective. In the late 1920s, he worked as a circus clown, riding a unicycle and performing stunts on the trapeze bar. Later, Lewis taught school and wrote two children's books. Lewis received a Ph.D. in child psychology from Columbia University at age thirty-one. He has read almost a book a day since he was eleven, he says. In 1949, at the suggestion of a friend, Lewis turned to acting and joined the Paul Mann Actor's Workshop in New York. There, with classmates Sidney Poitier and Vic Morrow, he developed a comedic style and a showcase for his commendable dramatic talent. Lewis worked in burlesque and vaudeville theaters across the country, which led to other theater endeavors and eventually to Broadway. He made New York his home base but traveled extensively and settled in Italy for a short period. By the 1950's television was booming, and Lewis took advantage of the medium. He was seen, if not heard, on almost every live show out of New York.

Welcome to Lewis.org
After learning more about Linux, networking, and the Internet than chemistry during graduate school, when I was supposed to be working on a Ph.D. in chemistry, I went to work for the yet unnamed ISP division of a local computer store right before they got their first router and Internet connection. As "senior technical person" for what became FDT, I was responsible for the network and servers for what grew over several years from zero to a few thousand customers in 4 cities. I left FDT in February of 1999 due to continuing disagreements with management and a general lack of faith in the survival of the company. I needed to work somewhere more stable. Somewhere where the staff wouldn't race to the bank every other Friday to see who's paychecks would clear. On and off, for a few years, Atlantic.Net had been offering me a job, so in February of 1999, I accepted their offer. Over the years, I've done (and still do) some consulting for a number of other ISP's (mostly ones up north or out west) and for some non-ISP companies that have Internet connectivity.
Here's an old (ok, really old) picture of me and my wife Gail. It was taken with a connectix QuickCam connected to my old 486 running Linux. HTML versions of
