The Burlington and Missouri River Railroad Company established a station at Lucas in 1866, named after Lucas County and Robert Lucas . A plat for the town was filed on May 9, 1868 and the town was incorporated on March 18, 1887. The town grew slowly until coal was discovered in the area. In 1876, the Whitebreast Coal and Mining Company began working a 250-foot shaft one mile east of Lucas. This proved successful, and in 1878, they platted a company town there, which they named Cleveland 41°1′57.21″N 93°26′38.71″W 41.0325583°N 93.4440861°W . By 1880, Cleveland had a population of 380, and the first mine was producing 650 to 700 tons of coal per day by the labor of 280 miners and 33 mule drivers. A second mine was opened 3/4 mile from the first, and the two mines sold coal to the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad

44. Henry Lee Lucs: Portrait Of A Serial Killer
Information on Lucas life and crimes, his accomplice, and his confessions.
http://www.houseofhorrors.com/lucas.htm
In interviews for the film, McNaughton stated "We didn't try to lay in a very specific them, only that it's a crazy, dangerous world. These people, killers, are out there, and if it's your turn..." So the fear and effectiveness of this film is built upon are intrigue with these animalistic freaks and the chance that they in fact could be the "boy next door". Let me conclude by saying, that this page is not presented in any way as a tribute to the foul deeds of Henry Lee Lucas. Rather it is provided as a source of information to help illustrate the underlying inspiration that Lucas has had on the film. Although a fictional representation of Henry's life, it does demonstrate some truths in it's examinations. There was an Ottis and Becky. Henry did in fact have a relationship with Becky which lead to her ultimate demise. HENRY LEE LUCAS Henry Lee Lucas might be America’s most prolific serial killer. On the other hand, he might be the biggest liar since Baron von Munchhausen. After experiencing a self-described "religious conversion" in prison, he decided to bare his soul and confess to an astronomical number of murders. Later, however, he recanted most of his testimony. Among law enforcement officials, the exact number of his crimes remains a matter of debate. Still, even if Lucas’s final body counts falls far short of the five hundred victims he originally claimed, he nevertheless ranks as one if the most depraved serial killer in history. Subjected to untold horrors by his insanely abusive mother, Lucas began indulging in sadistic depravity while still a child. By thirteen, he was engaging in sex with his older half-brother, who also introduced Henry to the joys of bestiality and animal torture. One of their favorite activities was slitting the throats of small animals, then sexually violating the corpses.

Robert Lucas wins Nobel Prize in Economics
Prize awarded to U of C faculty member for fifth time in six years Applause from dozens of well-wishers, handshakes from three fellow Nobel laureates and a flurry of attention from reporters, photographers and television crews were all part of an extraordinary day for Robert Lucas and what has come to be an almost ordinary early October day for the University. Lucas, it was announced Tuesday, has been awarded the 1995 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. He is the fifth University of Chicago economist to win the Nobel in the last six years. Lucas, who is the John Dewey Distinguished Service Professor in Economics and the College and who received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Chicago, won the Nobel "for having developed and applied the hypothesis of rational expectations, and thereby having transformed macroeconomic analysis and deepened our understanding of economic policy." The Swedish Academy of Sciences in its release called him "the economist who has had the greatest influence on macroeconomic research since 1970." Lucas' work has had a profound effect on macroeconomics, or the study of the economy as a whole. His worked has shown that because people make rational decisions about their economic welfare, their actions can alter the expected results of government economic policies. The result is a rethinking of the effect of government economic policies. Because of Lucas' work, economists today are better informed and less optimistic about the ability of governments to fine-tune economies through changes in monetary or other policies.

Luca Marenzio
Musical composer, born in 1550 at Coccaglia, near Brescia ; died at Rome 1599. His chief legacy to the musical world are his books of madrigals. His first collection was published in 1581 and was dedicated to Alphonse d'Este, the duke of Ferrara . Many of his 159 Madrigals and Motets have been translated into modern notation by Proske . A number of madrigals were published in 1588 in "Musica Trans-Alpina"; this collection became immediately popular. A "Mass" in eight parts is well known, and is worthy to be classed with the "Masses" of more illustrious church musicians . In a collection called "Villanelle e Arie alla Napolitana" he has left 113 exquisite madrigals and motets for three and four voices. The most notable of his compositions may be found printed in modern notation by Proske in "Musica Divina", II (Ratisbon, 1853).
