Home Saint Margaret, Queen of Scotland, Church In 1950 Fr Bolan was asked to organize a new parish to be called St Margaret, Queen of Scotland. The church was to be on the site, purchased years before, at Ridley Boulevard and Avenue Road. Fr Bolan used St Eugene’s Chapel as his parish church until St Margaret’s Hall was opened in 1951. St Margaret’s Church was completed and on December 27th, 1957 the formal blessing by Cardinal McGuigan was held. The church’s interior features stained glass windows depicting patroness St. Margaret, Saints Margeurite Bourgeoys, Bridget of Sweden, Eugene and Charles Borromeo. The four large statues in the church as well as the stations of the cross are hand carved in wood and were made by the Passion Players of Oberammagau, Germany. Extensive renovations to St Margaret’s Church were completed in 1979. These were mainly for insulation purposes, and the redesigning of the sanctuary to conform to the new liturgy proposed by the Second Vatican Council.

Marguerite De Navarre
Home Library History 1450-1789 Marguerite de Navarre (Marguerite d'Angoulême, Marguerite de Valois; 1492–1549), French author, humanist , and religious reformer. The sister of the French King Francis I (ruled 1515–1547), Marguerite became duchess of Alençon through her first marriage and queen of Navarre by her second, to Henry d'Albret in 1527. Marguerite was also a peer of the realm, duchess of Berri, countess of Perche, Armagnac, and Roddez, and held several smaller territories within France. Educated by some of the leading humanists of the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, Marguerite was an intellectual who corresponded with many European humanists during her lifetime. Like many French humanists, Marguerite was a devout Catholic interested in religious reform who supported translating the Scriptures into the vernacular and believed in a doctrine known as French Evangelism. Unlike the Protestants, French Evangelicals were interested in reforming the church from within. The French Evangelical agenda focused on specific clerical abuses, such as pluralism and

@import "common.css"; Welcome to the website of Gryffith and Aikaterine Thank you for visiting Us! The year is 1416… Pageantry is a source of delight. The great and the wealthy of the Kingdom show displays of grandeur that illustrate their power. Games of physical strength and skill are prevalent, including hawking, hunting, archery, football (yes, football), and the tournament. Love of finery is shown in ever more extravagant clothing and accessories, decorated with fine embroideries. Hats become more ornate and are seen on everyone from noble to commoner. The tournament is a notable event attracting much attention, filled with heralds, pageantry, audiences, and other trappings of order, together with entertainment, and is taken very seriously as training for war. Prizes are often given out to the victorious. Hounds are man's best friend and an important part of daily life. Quiet sources of delight include dice, board games, table games, and cards. Music, literature, and drama are everywhere, with topics ranging from romance and acts of chivalry to politics, mysticism, and mortality. Site design by Mistress Gavlinne

Marguerite de Valois /de Navarre /de France /Queen Margot (1553-1615)
"I COULD NOT WISH THE VICTORY OF EITHER PARTY."
Marguerite was born into the last generation of the Valois family, which had ruled France for over 200 years. She was the youngest of three daughters of King Henry II and Queen Catherine de Medici. Since they also had four sons, the French throne seemed secure. It was assumed that Marguerite would marry someone who would be a useful French ally, as had her older sisters; various marriages were considered and rejected. However, by 1570, Marguerite's father and eldest brother were dead, and none of her surviving brothers showed signs of producing an heir. At this point, Catherine de Medici and her second son, Charles IX, began negotiations to marry Marguerite to Henry of Bourbon, "first prince of the blood," the next in line for the French throne if the Valois had no sons to inherit. France had been in a state of civil war between Catholics and Protestants for much of the previous eight years. The Valois were Catholic, and Henry's branch of the Bourbons was Protestant. Catherine de Medici believed that Henry could be won over to the Valois belief, while Henry's mother
