Physical therapist, world traveler
Marion Fern Jones, a longtime resident of Claremont, died in Idaho on July 30, 2009 at the age of 95.  A native Californian, Ms. Jones was born Marion Fern Steadman at home in Pomona on August 21, 1913.  After graduating from Pomona High School, she attended Occidental College in Los Angeles and then graduated from Stanford University in Palo Alto.  Following Stanford, Ms. Jones received a graduation present for a foreign adventure—but not to the more common post-graduation destination of Europe. Instead, she ventured to Japan and China, traveling on the cruise ship “Chichibu Maru” in 1936, just before the war between China and Japan.  In those days, Shanghai was the international commerce hub of the world, and very cosmopolitan, her family mentioned.  Ms. Jones’ graduation adventure involved working as the secretary to a well-known Presbyterian minister who was leading 14 teachers on a study tour of China.    In her long and creative life, Ms. Jones was a pioneer in the nascent field of physical therapy, working with polio victims at Children's Hospital, Los Angeles, before widespread immunization programs were available. She also worked with war veterans from WWII and the Korean War at Casa Colina in Pomona.

Marion Davies Biography Related Books ... Marion Davies Fan Club Information Color lithograph of Marion from "Heart's Divided" Sign My Guestbook View My Guestbook Related Links Home of The Friends of Marion and The Marion Davies Fan Club Marion Davies was a motion picture star in the teens, twenties and nineteen thirties. Her career spanned some forty-five feature films with co-stars such as Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, Leslie Howard, Dick Powell and Robert Montgomery. Known in the silent era as one of the screen's most prolific clowns, Marion was one of the few silent stars to survive the transition to talkies. History often remembers Marion only for her association with magnate William Randolph Hearst, their story is truly one of America's greatest love stories of all time. One of the most loved stars in Hollywood, Marion was the socialite of her era, often hosting grand parties with themes such as the circus, wild west or the baby party in which everyone came dressed as children. She was also among the most giving of the Hollywood crowd, building two children's hospitals and establishing a foundation to care for them long after her death.

69. Marion Mahony
A portrait photograph and biography from Prairie Styles of this architect of the Prairie School who worked in the US and Australia.
http://www.prairiestyles.com/mahony.htm
When Wright left the Oak Park studio in 1909 he offered Marion control of the practice. She declined the offer but stayed on completing several projects under the direction of Herman Von Holst at his Steinway Hall office. While at Steinway Hall she was reunited with former colleagues, including Walter Burley Griffin. The renewed friendship lead to their marriage in June of 1911. After spending 21 years in Australia Marion followed Walter to Lucknow, India to help him with an abundance of work that he had obtained. In less than a year she oversaw the design of over one hundred Prairie School influenced buildings that were in contrast to the existing British style architecture. When Walter died suddenly in 1937, Marion finished their Indian projects and returned to Chicago. Back in the United States, Marion at age 66 turned to city planning. She developed plans for new communities in Texas and New Hampshire for her client Lola Maverick Lloyd. Unfortunately her client became ill and died before the plans could be executed. She spent the rest of her life writing her unpublished memoirs and living inconspicuously with family members on the north side of Chicago. She died in 1961 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery in Chicago.

Marion General Hospital is pleased to welcome Gene Brown, NP-C (Certified Nurse Practitioner) and his 26 years of experience to its medical staff. He will be joining the other talented physicians and nurse practitioners associated with the MGH Hospitalist Program. The purpose of the MGH Hospitalist Program is to provide MGH patients with increased access to physician and nurse practitioner care during their hospitalization. Hospitalists only see patients in the hospital, which enables them to be more immediately available to treat patients and begin coordinating their care. The MGH Hospitalist Program operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Hospitalists stay in close contact with your entire team of caregivers, including your primary care physician, to keep them regularly updated and informed of your overall condition and progress. Brown received his Bachelor's in Nursing from Marion College (IWU) and his Masters of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner) from Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, IN.
