This was the first major period of Bible translation into the English language including the King James Version and Douai Bibles . The Reformation and Counter-Reformation led to the need for Bibles in the vernacular with competing groups each producing their own versions. Although Wyclif's Bible had preceded the Protestant Reformation , England was actually one of the last countries in Europe to have a printed vernacular Bible. There were several reasons for this. Theological Study Material Undique ad coelos tantundem est viae . (The heavens are equally accessible from every part of the earth.) Similarly, God's word, and many of the secondary works on the Bible, are now accessable from virtually anywhere in the world. Why might one even choose to access the Bible? Perhaps it is, as some submit, simply a book of fantastic stories. If this were true, one could still glean much about comporting one's life well and living peacefully with one's fellow planet dwellers. Alternatively, perhaps the Bible reveals the one true way to find God. This would be my contention. In this latter case, one would be fool-hearty to eschew a study of the pages containing the very words of life. Paul's second letter to Timothy (2:15), in the World English Bible, says: "Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth." The same verse in the King James Version, which may be more familiar, begins"Study to show thyself approved..." In either wording, one can reasonably deduce the need to become familiar with God's word in order to know its meaning and content and be able to present those properly. The links below are intended to offer assistance with the study of the Bible and its concepts. They are not intended to, and must not, be substituted for a direct study of the Bible. I do not whole-heartedly endorse the writings of any of the secondary authors below. At times, there may be some area of disagreement, great or small, between me and a given author.
