Edit Your Page We are researching the FIELD FAMILY of Virginia, Kentucky and Indiana. Other families we are researching include: IRONMONGER, ALDAY, ROBERTS, GREY, WITHERS, and KEENE of Virginia, GROSS (GRASS, GRASZ), OBERLANDER, and WILSON, of Ohio and Indiana, FRYMIRE of New York and Indiana, IRWIN, HINKLE, GOHN, MOSHOLDER, and COWAN of Pennsylvania and Indiana, LEWIS of Kentucky, BROWN, of Gibson County, Indiana, RAINEY of Gibson County Indiana and South Carolina, STAFFORD of Kentucky and HINDS of New Jersey. We are willing to exchange or share any information.
Our principal interest is the FIELD line which traditionally descends from HUBERTUS DE LA FELD (1030-1092) of Alsace-Lorraine. He is thought to have immigrated to England at the time of William the Conqueror. The first immigrant of our line to reach the New World is thought to be HENRY FIELD (born 1611) son of JOHN FIELD, JR. (born about 1559) of Boston, Lincolnshire, England. HENRY arrived in Jamestown, Virginia in 1635 on the ship Expectation. The FIELD family remained in Virginia eventually moving to Culpeper County. From Culpeper County ABRAHAM FIELD (1744-1822) moved to Jefferson County, Kentucky in 1784. His son KEEN (died 1815) settled in Gibson County, Indiana.

From my wikipedia article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Tappan_Wright Mary Tappan Wright (1851-1916) was an American novelist and short story writer best known for her acute characterizations and depictions of academic life. She was the wife of classical scholar John Henry Wright and the mother of utopian novelist Austin Tappan Wright and geographer John Kirtland Wright. Life and family
Wright was born Mary Tappan December 14, 1851 in Steubenville, Ohio, or December 18 of the same year, the daughter of Eli Todd Tappan, president of Kenyon College, and Lydia (McDowell) Tappan. She was educated at Auburn Young Ladies Institute, Cincinnati, Ohio. She married, April 2, 1878, John Henry Wright, then an associate professor of Greek at Dartmouth College and later professor of classical philology and dean of the Collegiate Board of Johns Hopkins University, professor of Greek at Harvard University, and dean of Harvards Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The couple had three children, Elizabeth Tappan Wright (who died young), Austin Tappan Wright, and John Kirtland Wright. They lived successively in Hanover, New Hampshire, Baltimore, Maryland and Cambridge, Massachusetts, aside from one period during which John was a professor at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, when they resided in Greece. Wright was a founding member of the Boston Authors Club in 1900.
