Ayn Alissa Rand (1905—1982)
Ayn Rand was a major intellectual of the twentieth century. Born in Russia in 1905 and educated there, she immigrated to the United States after graduating from the university, where she studied history, politics, philosophy, and literature. Rand had always found capitalism and the individualism of the United States a welcome alternative to the corrupt and negative socialism of Russia. Upon becoming proficient in English and establishing herself as a writer in the U.S., she became a passionate advocate of her philosophy, Objectivism. Rand’s philosophy is in the Aristotelian tradition , with that tradition’s emphasis upon metaphysical naturalism, empirical reason in epistemology, and self-realization in ethics .  Objectivism is rational self-interest and self-responsibility – the idea that no man is any other man’s slave. The virtues of her philosophy are principled policies based on rational assessment: rationality, productiveness, honesty (in order to rationally make the best decisions we must be privy to the facts), integrity, independence, justice, and pride. Her political philosophy is in the classical liberal tradition, with that tradition’s emphasis upon

Ayn Rand, born Anna Rosenblum in Russia 1913 (I think), grew up in post revolution Russia. She knew something was wrong. So she emigrated to the US in the thirties ON HER OWN and started writing plays and articles in her broken English.
By 1967, people like Alan Greenspan co-authored books with her (Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal) . She is so brilliant, a think tank was established in her name Rand and a new branch of philosophy, Objectivism, was founded as a result of her.

Biography
Russian-born American writer, author of "Atlas Shrugged" and other philosophical novels based on her philosphy that she called "Objectivism." She claimed to have taught herself to read at age six.By age nine, fascinated with European style heroes and taken with the works of Victor Hugo, she had decided to be a novelist. During the Russian Revolution of 1917, her family moved to the Crimea to escapte the fighting. The Communists confiscated her father's pharmacy and the family was reduced to poverty. In high school as she studied history, the American model of capitalism and freedom appealed to her. Published in 1957, Atlas Shrugged was her greatest achievement and last work of fiction. The book embodies the philosophy she had developed and labeled Objectivism and thereafter she lectured and wrote articles and essays about her beliefs. Her husband died in 1979 and she died on March 6, 1982 of heart failure in her New York City apartment. Link to Wikipedia biography
