Reade became a fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford, in 1835 but treated the position as a sinecure. In 1843 he was called to the bar but never practiced law, and several years later he became a dealer in violins. Finally, in 1849 he embarked on a long career as a dramatist, theatre manager, and novelist. Laura Seymour, an actress, lived with him from 1856 until her death in 1879.

    Saw the Show April 2007
Pro: Gorgeous, talented showgirls, beautiful costumes, imaginative and elegant sets, likable and entertaining host, excellent comedian starring as variety act Con: No real cons. Music is good but not up to the standard of the Cirque du Soleil shows or Crazy Horse I absolutely and wholeheartedly recommend the show. Here is why: I wanted to see the show because (i) I am a perpetually horny reprobate and (ii) the show is a piece of Las Vegas history. Because the show got decent but not outstanding reviews in a guidebook I trust (Unofficial Guide to Vegas) I was expecting it to be good but not great. I LOVED THIS SHOW AND CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT IT!!!! I also love Crazy Horse at the MGM Grand, my benchmark for Las Vegas topless revues, and I was not expecting FB to come anywhere close. I was surprised to find I actually liked FB BETTER in some respects (and that's no dis at all to CH, a show that is also great but very different).
