Thread Index Re: [Worship] Arrangements for Flute for Worship Team As an arranger and worship leader, I subscribe to the concept that it's better to play too little than too much. ("Less is more.") Your flautist needs to take a long hard look at her attitude towards worship. Is she on the platform to bring attention to herself, or to provide a beautiful embellishnment to the music that is part of worship? I fear that your worship team in general, as so many do, may be falling into the "everybody play!" trap. It's a good idea to share with ALL of your musicians (vocalists included) the concept of dynamics. Listen to a well produced recording of a dramatic symphonic piece such as Mussorgsky's "Pictures At An Exhibition," and listen to the interplay between the various instruments. Sometimes the strings are flowing like a river, sometimes the brass is forceful and dramatic, sometimes nothing is heard but a lone oboe. Dynamics is to music what shading and tinting techniques are to painting. Think of what daVinci's Mona Lisa would have looked like done in ASCII art... not too pretty a picture, literally.
