MARY WOLLSTONECRAFT SHELLEY QUOTES Every thing must have a beginning ... and that beginning must be linked to something that went before. MARY SHELLEY, Frankenstein When any prevailing prejudice is attacked, the wise will consider, and leave the narrow-minded to rail with thoughtless vehemence at innovation. MARY WOLLSTONECRAFT, A Vindication of the Rights of Women Friendship is a serious affection; the most sublime of all affections, because it is founded on principle, and cemented by time. MARY WOLLSTONECRAFT, A Vindication of the Rights of Women An air of fashion, which is but a badge of slavery ... proves that the soul has not a strong individual character. MARY WOLLSTONECRAFT, A Vindication of the Rights of Women The air of fashion, which many young people are so eager to attain, always strikes me like the studied attitudes of some modern prints, copied with tasteless servility after the antigue; the soul is left out, and none of the parts are tied together by what may properly be termed character. This being you must create.” Started as a ghost story and inspired by a conversation Shelley had overheard between her husband Percy Bysshe Shelly and Lord George Gordon Byron talking about galvanism, it soon became one of the first best selling works by a female author.
