The Obit For Charles Simmons CHARLES R. SIMMONS The Burlington County Times, March 16, 2009 Charles R. "Weez" Simmons of Burlington Township passed away Friday, March 13, 2009 at Lourdes Hospital in Willingboro at the age of 85. Born in Burlington on May 5, 1923 he remained a lifetime resident of the area. A quiet, humble man, he was a devoted husband with a love for family and friends. A United States Marine Corps Veteran, he served his country honorably during World War II in the South Pacific and China. Charles was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church of Burlington and a member of the Burlington Elks Lodge. Active in local sports, Charles also played minor league baseball with the Philadelphia A's. He was proud to have managed the Babe Ruth team which went to the U.S. World Series Play-Off's in 1953. His nieces and nephews will always remember the Easter egg hunts he would organize giving them clues in rhyme fashion as to where the eggs were hidden. Charles was well loved by all who knew him and will be remembered simply as an "all around nice guy". He had been employed as a pipe fitter for Hercules, Inc., retiring in 1987 after 24 years of service. After his retirement his hobbies included baking bread and water color painting. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mildred (nee Sandusky) Simmons. He will be sadly missed by his sister-in-law, Dolores Simmons of Florence, NJ., his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glen and Alda Sandusky of Leesburg, FL. As well as his niece Nancy McKinley of Mt. Sinai, NY, and Carol Carson of Westfield, NJ as well as several nieces and nephews on his wife's side of the family.
