Pat's Pizza Vs. Siano's Pizzeria
Two more pizza places are opening up this Spring in the Old Port. Here's a quick look at both of them.
Siano's Pizzeria
at 505 Fore Street, (formerly home of Una wine bar and a former home of Portland Pie before that), will be the company's third location. I've never been inside this building but it looks like they are really sprucing up the inside and it has always looked nice from the outside. I am most looking forward to their breakfast options, which a lot of pizzerias seem to overlook. Beyond breakfast pizzas (which are heavenly when done right) they will offer all the regular eggs and pancakes type of stuff. The rest of the menu looks impressive as well.
Pat's Pizza
, with many locations around Maine, is finally coming to Portland. They will be at 30 Market Street, which I think is where Market Street Eats used to be (they moved next door). They will occupy three floors, with apparently separate levels for take out, the bar, and family dining. The menu on their website says 'to be decided,' but it's safe to say they will have pizza and sandwiches like all the other locations. They have good pizza pies and I could see them becoming a pizza fan favorite in the area, especially with families.

    47. Uncle Sinclair
Brief page on Sir Clive focusing on his calculators, though he also invented the digital watch, and was father of the British home computer revolution.

    UNCLE SINCLAIR by
    Dr. Anoop Sahal
Sir Clive Sinclair is a household name in the UK. He is a businessman of international repute.
Sir Clive harnessed high technology in the interests of the small business using a management technique in the style of David- the one that slayed Goliath.
But Sir Clive has that other oh-so British trait of eccentricity. Through managerial mistakes he dimmed his shining glory.
Uncle Clive....... to call him an inventor is perhaps a little inaccurate. Innovator is a closer description. As an example look at the fact that his success floundered particularly in the inventing of the pocket TV . Yet it was at its height after the introduction of the innovative Spectrum personal computers. These followed the introduction of other expensive home computers by larger companies.
Having said all that Uncle Clive gave me trophies of supremacy in school environs. I was last in the 1500 meters race, so what! I got a Sinclair Scientific Calculator for my birthday. They turned green with envy.
Uncle Clive peppered my adolescence with these gadgets, the calculators of course - until he failed to produce LCD models. Then the ZX81 followed by the Spectrum colour computer with 48 K RAM (less than my Dads data watch today!).

    57. The PC 200
Phil South discovers that the new Sinclair is an IBM PC compatible rather than a Spectrum. Your Sinclair
    http://www.ysrnry.co.uk/articles/pc200review.htm
The PC 200 The new Sinclair may not be a Spectrum, but it's an IBM PC Compatible! Hoo boy, we're going to have to get Technical Phil South to have a look at this... Phil South No, I couldn't believe it either, but after thinking about it for a while, I've come to the conclusion that this new machine is a good thing. It's good for the Sinclair brand, taking it into the nineties with a wry grin on its monitor. It's good for the user, presenting him or her wide a range of software unequalled by any other type of machine. And it's certainly good for Amstrad (who bought the Sinclair name in 1985 [actually 1986 - NickH] ), as it could make it the biggest manufacturer and seller of PCs in the world, and earn it a cow-choking wad of cash to boot. Yep, Alan Sugar is going to be positively surfing in money this time, if he isn't already.
So why a PC? At the risk of sounding like Barry Norman, why not? The world and his mum are buying PCs at the moment, so why shouldn't the Sinclair brand name be up there on the shelves among them? The PC compatible computer is an old concept, but it's a good one, and it has one big advantage - and any computer which has this goes on for years and years and years. And what's this advantage? Slots! No, I'm not being rude, I'm referring to the expansion slots inside the computer which take expansion cards (printed circuit boards which customise your computer to do any job you like - from being a satellite tracking station, to a Desk Top Publishing workstation or an arcade machine with advanced graphics). Okay that's the theory now for the practice!!

Best search term: sinclair (pc200,pc 200) Availability: Rare Typical value: Amstrad's Sinclair was a radical departure from anything previously produced under the Sinclair label. In effect, it was Amstrad's attempt to tap the market at which the QL had been targeted - the serious user or small businessman on a tight budget. The machine was a severely cut-down PC with an Intel 8086 processor, CGA video card, 512K of memory and no hard disk. The machine came with MS-DOS 3.3 and the GEM desktop system from Digital Research. Its memory could be expanded to 640Kb and an Intel 8087 maths co-processor could be added. Although two expansion slots were provided, the design of the case meant that they could not be housed within the machine - the top cover had to be permanently removed. This severely limited its expandability.
