Introduction
This page documents the books in my library, initially stemming from my interest in the fur trade in Canada. As my reading progressed, it expanded to include the history of the First Nations people who were here before, and upon whom the early Europeans depended. Hence, the still-expanding library covers the early history of Canada as a whole, its geography, and almost by definition, the canoe. I maintain the information on this page for my own benefit and use. It just helps me keep track of things. But, having made the effort to create it, is makes sense to share it, on the chance that some of the material will be of interest or use to others. This is a companion to a few other pages that I keep - all of which pertain to my books. One documents my books on Central Asia, the Himalaya, and Climbing. One is a timeline that helps me keep track of events contemporary with those about which I am reading. Finally, there is one which helps me keep track of some of the people who populate the books that I read - so far, only those having to do with climbing and the history of Central Asia. Links to all of these, as well as to my home page - where my contact information can be found - can be accessed via the buttons at the top of this page.

SUMMARY In the year 1778, the War for Independence rages, and Becky Landers of Maybrook, Kentucky forms a plan to join the audacious George Rogers Clark on his dangerous mission, bringing gunpowder to capture the British forts of Kaskaskia and Vmcennes. She hopes to track down her brother, taken the year before by Indians. Naturally, she will meet every form of resistance to such an outrageous initiative from a 15-year-old girl. In this vivid and well-researched frontier novel, the historic figures of Daniel Boone, Clark, Sam Kenton, the Frenchman De Quindre, the Indian Black Fish and others interweave with Becky's adventures in as colorful a manner as their remarkable personalities deserve. FYI
Constance Lindsay Skinner
Constance Lindsay Skinner was born on December 7, 1877 at Quesnel, British Columbia, Canada to Robert and Annie (Lindsay) Skinner. Her father was an agent for the Hudson's Bay Company.
In 1891 the family relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia. By this time, Skinner was already writing, completing her first published work, Gederland, during her teen years. In 1893, Skinner went to live with her aunt in California. While little is known of her childhood, much of the history and many of the novels and stories she wrote in later years were related to the northwest, Canada, and the gold rush.

The fort was founded in March when the company arrived on board Captain Jonathan Thorn 's ship, Tonquin . By the end of May the fort was complete, built with bark covered logs enclosing a stockade that had guns mounted for defense. By the time an overland party joined them in February, , they had constructed a trading store, a blacksmith's shop, a dwelling house, and a storage shed for pelts acquired from trapping or trading with the local native Americans Cannons were arranged around the perimeter for defense. The outpost was to serve as an administrative center for various satellite forts such as Fort Okanogan Two of the notable founders were Alexander MacKay and Alexander Ross . Mackay died in the battle which destroyed the Tonquin while Ross joined the North West Company in 1813 after they acquired the fort.
