His parents moved when he was a child to Nant , near Nantglyn . He learned to read at one of Griffith Jones 's circulating schools, and was later put to school for a fortnight at Denbigh . O 1741 fe ddechreuodd pregethwyr Calfinaidd wneud eu ffordd i Ddinbych a chyn bo hir yr oedd cyfarfodydd rheolaidd yn cael eu cynnal yn, ac ar ymylon y dref, llawer ohonynt mewn hen sgubor. Erbyn 1793 yr oedd y gynulleidfa wedi gordyfu'r adeilad hwn. Fe benderfynasant ddymchwel yr ysgubor ac adeiladu capel yn ei lle. Dim ond 30 troedfedd sgwâr yr oedd yn mesur. Mae wedi ei adeiladu i gynllun oedd yn gyffredin ar y pryd ond a gollodd ei boblogrwydd, sef adeilad petryal hir, gyda drysau ar bob pen i'r waliau hiraf, a'r pulpud rhwng y drysau. Ffynhonnell y cynllun oedd yr ygubor mewn cae le y bu i lu o gynulleidfaoedd Methodistiaid Calfinaidd, gan gynnwys y Capel Mawr, ddechrau eu bywyd. Fe aeth drwy amryw o newidiadau, ac fe gafodd yr adeilad gwreiddiol ar lun ysgubor ei addurno mewn arddull Eidalaidd ochelgar. Fe gafodd y Capel Mawr ei newid yn 1857-1860, ac eto yn 1879-1880, pan symudwyd y pulpud i'w safle presennol ac yr adeiladwyd y cyntedd sgwâr. Fe gafodd yr ysgoldy ei hadeiladu yn 1892 ac yn 1905 fe adeiladwyd ac fe osodwyd yr organ gan Alex Young a'i Feibion, Manceinion. Tours led by owner Tom Smith who is restoring the house and has good knowledge of restoring historic buildings.
