Assignment #1: Determining Land Needs in Canyonville Home Overview Syllabus Schedule ... Links Background Recent trends are placing increased development pressures on the City of Canyonville (1996 pop. 1,235). The construction of the Cow Creek Gaming Center has added about 250 new jobs to the small community. According to Tribal officials, the gaming center could employ as many as 800 people when all phases of development are completed According to Statewide Planning Goal 14 (Urbanization) and the Goal 14 refinements adopted as HB 2709 (ORS 197.296), cities are required to maintain a 20-year supply of buildable land. The City is also initiating a periodic review of its comprehensive plan; the buildable lands analysis is one component of the plan that will need to be updated during the review process. Your analysis should be presented in the form of a memorandum to the City Council and should include appropriate analysis, narrative, and tables. Rhode Island Affirmative Action Data
The Equal Employment Opportunity tables in this report were prepared using the 2000 US Census of Population and Housing Equal Employment Opportunity file, which is available on the Census web site . The Labor Market Information Unit of the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training has the responsibility for formatting the data to meet the US Census labor force data requirements for an Affirmative Action Plan. Labor force data reflect only the civilian population (military is excluded) 16 years of age and above as of April 1, 2000. Occupations are based on the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system, which includes 23 major groups and 821 detailed occupations. This classification system categorizes occupations according to the nature of the work performed and relates these occupations to others of a similar nature. Because the military is not included, twenty-two major SOC groups and 801 detailed occupations are presented in this report. The SOC provides a mechanism for cross-referencing and aggregating occupation-related data collected by social and economic statistical reporting programs. The Census Bureau has adapted the SOC to create the occupational categories used in Census 2000 and in the Census 2000 Special EEO file.

Metadata created using Minnesota Geographic Metadata Guidelines
Metadata Summary
Originator MetroGIS Socioeconomic Needs Workgroup and the University's Minnesota Population Center Abstract Socioeconomic data is collected and delivered by many different organizations. This metadata record is a generic reference for a set of data providers who help meet the socioeconomic information needs of the MetroGIS Community. Those providers were identified in 2003 by a workgroup of MetroGIS looking for data that was freely available to meet those needs for summary data about small areas like cities, counties, or census tracts. The University's Minnesota Population Center has accepted the role of Regional Custodian for this page. Significant upgrades were made in 2009.
Socioeconomic information needs were identified in the following areas: demographic, employment location, housing, transportation, service facility location, K-12 education, building permits, taxes, and crime. The workgroup looked to identify sources that would provide data to meet these needs in the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area of Minneapolis-St. Paul. To meet those needs, the goal was to identify data sources with the following specifications: sub-city resolution, annual updates, and 10-year or longer times series. Not all of the identified data sources meet these specifications.
33 different data sources have been identified. Documentation levels vary as do access levels. At the best level, for example, the US Census of Population and Housing, data are fully documented and files can be downloaded from the Internet. In some cases, data can be viewed online, but machine readable data must be ordered from the supplier - sometimes for a small fee. Commercial data sources are also included.
